Sometimes you get more for than what you paid for, it happened to me in Philadelphia on a "Tipplers Tour", what you may ask is a "Tippler's Tour", I'll fill you in; Back at around the "Founding Fathers" time in the 18th century, there were over 120 licensed taverns for a population of 20,000, so booze was a big part of the social scene back then, this was before television, movies and discos and ,oh yeah, sports talk radio, I might add. So I am the kind of guy that is very interested in history so I thought I would go on this "Tippler's Tour", it is really great, you start off at the Powell house, where the last and first mayor of Philadelphia lived, let me explain , Samuel Powell was the last mayor under British rule and he was the first mayor after Independence, so anyway you visit a number of places and in every visit you have a drink and learn of the customs and life of that place or time. Well anyway , I am at the Powell house and I have to "freshen" up, if you know what I mean, I go up to use the lavatory on the second floor and the lights go out, now, I'm as blind as a bat when the lights are on! , but I feel along the wall out to the hallway, it is pitch black, there could have been a window open, because I felt this icy cold wind or spot just surround me, you could just feel the thickness of it, and this musty smell just filled the air around me, just then someone took my hand, what a cold clammy grip, but I am not going to argue because whoever they are, they are leading me to the steps, ...I think.....Just then the lights go back on, and for a second, I see this beautiful , breathtaking woman wearing a long dress just slowly fading away, I did not tell anyone else on the tour what happened less they think I was crazy or drunk, but that night I drank some hard liquor. When I had some time I did a little research and it seems in a story from The Evening Bulletin in 1965, the owner of the house, respected historian Edwin Moore claimed that the house was haunted, he had seen soldiers one of whom he thought was Lafayette, Moore's wife had seen a very beautiful woman clad in a lavender and beige dress, vanish right before her eyes. I still think of that apparition , she was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, I would love to take her home , but I don't think my mother would approve.
