House Row
Philadelphia
Take a 15 minute walk or a 2 minute drive up the Benjamin Franklin Parkway ,and you will come upon Boat house row, they are a group of Victorian buildings that house the sculling clubs along the Schuylkill river. It brings to mind a fishing village at the turn of the century. It is a very popular destination for joggers, bikers and artists. It is an oasis inside this bustling city. When Edger Allan Poe lived in Philadelphia, this was one of his favorite spots to come to comtemplate and write, it could be the place where he got his inspiration to write of mysteries and hauntings. Before the dam was built at the water works, the Schuylkill was sailed by pirates who are said to have buried treasure along it's banks. The Leni Lenapi Indians told of supernatural beings and of strange lights that frequented the river. Many of the stories bring to mind "Saint Elmo's fire" or "Foo Fighters". During WW2 , pilots for both sides reported "balls of lights" that would follow their planes. During colonial times and down through the centuries, many reports have been filed about the "ghost Lights of the Schuylkill", we had a sighting as recently as November, a sculler from one of the boat clubs saw a ball of light streak across the river,he caught a few seconds of it on video that we provide for your viewing here: Ghost Lights of the Schuylkill Ever see a ghost?A UFO ?
