In it's heyday , the USS United States** was one of the grandest and fastest of the trans atlantic ocean liners, it had taken the record of the fastest Atlantic ocean crossing from the venerable Queen Mary by 10 hours.

Many of the important influential people of the day traveled on her in style, it is hard to imagine that luxury liner , looking at her now,berthed at the Philadelphia port, stripped of her precious ornaments and finery by previous owners who turned her into a work ship, she was rescued by a New Jersey real estate developer, and her future could turn for the better.

But now we shall tell a story from her past, Mary Peck who lives in Society hill, was on her honeymoon and sailed on the ship back in the early fifties , at the time her mother was gravely ill, Mary did not want to go but her mother insisted, one night in her cabin room , Mary had a dream of her mother coming into her cabin and kissing and tucking her in.

When she awoke she found her husband sitting next to her in bed with a strange look on his face, he told her he had seen her mother come into their room during the night, they both knew that could not be so, without hesitation they wired a message to Mary's house only to find out that Mary's mother had died the night before!
