Location: Washington Square ~ Philadelphia Date: The Present Washington Square was one of the original parks laid out by William Penn. It was to be sort of a green belt for the city but in its long history Washington Square has seen many uses. The original Memorial to the unknown soldier is located here in the park borders because of the thousands of soldiers that were mass buried here during the Revolutionary war. At one time there was a prison across the street that was taken over by the British during that war, many hundreds of prisoners were cruelly treated and died, their lifeless bodies interned here in this lovely park, there are also many British and Hessian soldiers here, their bodies dumped into pits. In the late 18th century the Yellow fever epidemic gripped the city killing 5,000 out of the 50,000 population, again the park was used as a mass burial ground. Many "Ghost" tours and Paranormal investigating groups have toured and investigated the park late at night with many sightings of ghosts. One paranormal investigation team almost lost a member when he suffered a heart attack brought on by sheer fright after seeing a dark shadow behind him. You will notice one thing about this park, there are not too many street people who sleep on it's benches late into the night. Ever see a ghost?A UFO ? Or any other paranormal experiance, drop us a line if you would like to see it on line.E-MAIL Me em> b> | CONTENTS: | |
