Well, I just re-read this book, and I was so wrong about it! It's just one of those that I need to read twice to get (I'm kind of a skimmy reader) and I loved it the second time through! In this book Alanna takes the map given to her by the sorceress who died at the end of Woman Who Rides Like a Man and goes on a quest to find the Dominion Jewel - the newly orphaned Jonathan needs help ruling tortal.
On her way, she meets several cool new friends, such as Liam, the Shang Dragon (I have a love-hate relationship with this guy, as does Alanna. He can be cool, but COME ON!!! HE'S FRIGGIN' AFRAID OF THE GIFT!), Thayet, the most beautiful woman in the world, and...several others.
The ending of this book is almost too climactic - several people die - actually *sniff* not just people - and Alanna finally realizes that George is who she's meant to be with. Of course, that was predictable. Like she ever could've married Jon or Liam!

Saddest Part: Faithful dies, p. 281, though it's not so bad after you read In the Realms of the Gods - oh, and some people think Liam's death is sadder. HA! Who gives a damn about that FREAK???? (Sorry. I'm feeling just a tad high-strung.)
