I like fanfiction as much as the next person. In fact, I'm totally addicted to the stuff. But...I look at fanfiction as a way of fixing things when the author screws up. For example: Buffy fanfiction. Buffy and Angel are mainly written by Joss Whedon, who screws up all the time. Tamora Pierce does what I want her to do - all the time. And even when she doesn't, she usually has a good reason for it. Even though I hate that Rikash is dead, I don't want to read fanfiction about him NOT dying. It was part of the story. It happened. I don't want to change it. I have some actually faith in Pierce to write well and reasonably. Which I don't have in Joss Whedon, because he's a crackhead. :)
