There's something funny about the Immortals series. Although they're all connected in the fight against Carthak, etc., the first two don't really seem to go along with the others. Sure, they're fighting Carthaki raiders in the first one (from Pirate's Swoop!) but it doesn't have the same feel as the all-out struggle for power that the second two have.
Still, I like this book. It has sort of a Julie of the Wolves feel to it, and Daine learns some cool stuff about her powers. And you start feeling very hostile against the villains, Tristan and Yolane, when you learn about the horrible Bloodrain that they're planning to pour into the river.
AND my favorite character is introduced. And when I say favorite, I mean favorite...from any book, ever. Rikash Moonsword is just the coolest...um, person in The Immortals. Though he's sorta evil in this one. That's my boy!
