I went back to the reception area to wait for more customers to come. After a while, a couple of teenagers came in. One was about 16, quite big with short curly hair, the other one was 15 but looked younger (I found out about his age later), blue eyes and was wearing a wool cap. They both told the lady in the reception area that they wanted a haircut. I heard the older one telling the other: “try #2 first, you might regret going bald”

What was I hearing!! GOING BALD. In that moment, the boy took off his hat and I could see great long straight black hair. The boy was planning to cut it all, WOW. I approached him and asked to follow me. A hairstylist took care of his friend who ended far away from us. My customer and I were heading toward the end of the hall.

- So, you have decided to cut it all eh?

- Yeah

- What’s your name?

- Andres

- I’m Julian.

I asked him to sit on my chair and I put on the cape. He had really nice hair. He combed his hair parted in the middle of his head from where locks of 8 inches of hair fell over the sides. As soon as he sat, he instinctively started to pass his hands over his head. I put my hands on his shoulders and looked at him trough the mirror, waiting for instructions. He didn’t say a word.

- Well, so you want to go bald right?

- Well, what do you think? What else can we do?

Oh, Oh, he was starting to chicken out.

- Hey buddy, if you got the guts to get this far, you should go all the way. Have you done it before?

- No, in fact, I had it really long before. When I combed it into my face, it reached my chin, but a couple of months ago I gotten it shorter.

- Well, ready then?.

- Yes, lets do it, but not without an attachment!!

- All right, shall we use #2 as your friend suggested? that’s not going bald

- And #1?

- Although going bald would be with bare clippers, #1 it’s pretty short

- Use #1 then

I turned on my clippers with #1 guard attached and thought  “Where should I start? If I start on top, there is no way back, but I rather see his transformation slower” so I decided to pass it over left sideburn first.

That was great, a strip of nice white skin appeared where the sideburn was, then all the hair over the ear was gone.

- Have you been thinking about doing this for a long time pal?

- Not really, I decided to do it just this afternoon

- How was that?

- My friend ask me to accompany to get a haircut him and I said, “let’s go and I’ll get an induction cut”, and here I am.

The damage was now more extended, his thin neck was now exposed to light after quite a long time. But this was happening too fast. I decided to make more fun of it.

- In order to ease the work of the clippers, I’ll shorten it first with the scissors all right?

He just nodded. I took the scissors and after combing his hair again, I lifted locks of hair from the top and closed the scissors near to the scalp. I could hear the sound made by the scissors and the hair as I slowly cut it. After each click, my hand was left with a bunch of clean, black, long hair.

After a while, all his hair was chopped off unevenly. He finally said, “I look like a weirdo” and yes, he did. Lots of hair on the floor, and a new guy appearing.

Now it was time for the clippers. I turned them on and passed them all over, starting with the sides, then the back and finally on top.

- You look handsome boy

- Do you think so?

- Yeah, your eyes stand out now. How do you like it? do you regret it?

- I don’t know

- I’m sure they will bother you at school, but don’t let them upset you. You are a brave guy and you look just fine, all right?

- Sure, I kind of like it, and in a couple of weeks, it’ll be all right

He thanked me and went to look for his friend. He was still getting his haircut and as soon as he saw Andres, he started to laugh real hard.

- I told you to use #2 first

- This is fine

- Yeah, you look like a pool ball.

After this comment, Andres started to worry and his face changed. He was feeling bad. His friend told him then:

- Just kidding, that’s fine. Come on, put on your hat and wait for me outside.

What a day!! I really enjoyed it.
