Militant Studes Join Workers, Urban Poor
in Anti-Erap, Anti Gloria Protest at Ayala
Militant students belonging to the Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Manggagawang Pilipino (KAMPI) today joined the demonstration of workers and urban poor at Ayala, Makati City.
The said group positioned themselves under the call of Sanlakas for mass resignation, political reforms and snap elections regarding the crisis that is shaking the Philippine political arena nowadays.
Erwin Puhawan, Kampi National Chairperson, stated, "In our current situation, the better we should do is to analyze the circumstances. We can see that traditional politicians, especially those from the opposition, seem to abuse the rising public pressure for the ouster of President Estrada."
"The opposition appears to be acting based on a script. Look at the sidelines of the ouster move. At first, the Vice-President steps down from being a cabinet member of the administration. Then, several turncoaters follow suit by quitting from the LAMP party coalition."
"In the midst are some equally regard-worthy events like the submission of the impeachment complaint and the admission of two senators and some other similarly important persons in receiving money from gambling. Only yesterday, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo broke her silence regarding the issue of the President’s resignation by saying that "a political problem requires a political solution" and "there’s no other solution." This was after several instances that Gloria refused to comment on the said issue."
"Thus, with such scripted-like incidents, we conclude that the political opposition, the liberal elite is aiming to grab the presidency without taking too much time. That is the reason that they quickly reject every proposal, even those coming from their fellow trapos, like snap election, referendum and, as we see it, they will also reject the power-sharing proposal."
"This only means a thing, if Erap is a gangster unworthy of public trust, Gloria is a vulture that is waiting for the carcass of the President. That is the reason behind our demand for mass resignation as both the administration and the opposition is tainted by all kinds of social sins."
"We heed, then, for political reforms to pave the way for radical changes in anti-people government policies and a snap election that is not aimed to reinstall Erap or Gloria but to install a new government that is not trapo-infested.", Puhawan ended. ###
