L to R: Sally, Katie, Sophie, Belinda & Tiffany.

The story so far ...

Bardot began early in the year 2000 on Australian television as an advertisement for young women who could sing and dance and wanted to join a pop band. This blossomed into huge auditions around the country, full of young hopefuls with dreams of fame and lots of glitter. One of the tv stations here organised the auditions and filmed them, eventually making it into a two-series tv show. The auditions narrowed down the crowd to the most talented girls, and in the final show, announced the five who had made it into the band - Katie, Sally, Sophie, Belinda and Chantelle??? - more about that in a minute!

This narrowing-down process received a lot of media attention, especially when the group was narrowed down to 10 girls. The series, named 'Popstars', was attracting top ratings in its timeslot.

So, the five girls chosen, they moved into a house together to get to know one another. Chantelle, the forgoten popstar, soon decided to leave the group, for personal reasons. The rumour though was that she had been caught stealing money from the other girls, although this was never proved. The judges then went back to the audition videos to look for a replacement, and so Tiffany appeared in the picture.

The girls decided to take the name 'Bardot', after ms. Brigitte Bardot, sex symbol of the 1960's. There is also a clothing range here in Australia named Bardot, with whom the girls have become associated with and promote their clothing range.

The second series focussed on the band as they formed, in the house, deciding upon the name and working on their debut album. The first single 'Poison' skyrocketed to the top of the australian music charts as soon as it was released, and stayed there for a number of weeks. This is a huge achievement for an Australian band.

The debut album was named 'Bardot' (real original), and the second and third singles have come from it. Thy are 'I Should've Never Let You Go' and 'These Days' (my favourite song). The tv series ended here but the band has lived on..

They embarked on a national tour of the shopping centres to promote the album, and there were huge audience turnouts, packing the centres to capacity crowd. Then, in August, they began their national concert tour, including Australia and New Zealand. The New Zealand leg of the tour was cancelled due to poor ticket sales, but the Australian side was still performed. I went to one of he shows and it was brilliant! There were three costume changes, the first a futuristic set, the second was multicolored sparkles and the third was pure white. They performed album songs and some B-sides.

So now I come to the present, and wait to see if they survive or fade ....
