Welcome to my library! In this room, I've attempted to put together a virtual library of some of my favorite novels, short stories and poems. Some of these links will keep you here within my site, and some will take you to other great literature sites! Before you go anywhere, though, please be sure to bookmark this page, for future use! Thank you for visiting, and enjoy your stay!
(p.s. Um, you can make all the noise you want in here, okay?)
I would like to encourage everyone visiting my site to learn more about opportunities to volunteer for literacy projects in his or her part of the world. More than 960 million adults, two thirds of them women, are illiterate. Of the estimated 130 million young children not attending primary school in developing countries, two thirds are girls. Reading has always been a very important part of my life, and I've volunteered time, myself, over the past two years, to state and local literacy projects for both children and adults. I've always come away with a feeling that I've truly made a difference in the lives of people who genuinely want to learn. When a person can't read or write, they are cheated of the opportunity not only to enjoy the pleasures of literature which you and I are able to enjoy every day, but they are also often unable to understand and have a voice in many basic social issues which might affect them. If you know an adult who cannot read, please take the first step in helping them, by contacting a local literacy project. Encourage them to participate, because it's never too late to learn to read and write! Knowledge is power, and people without basic literacy skills are at great risk of being disenfranchised of many things which you and I take for granted in everyday life! Turn the TV off for a few hours a week, or even each day, and read to the kids in your family! Take them to the library at least once a week! They will thank you, and Natasha will thank you! I'd be more than happy to help you find a literacy resource for your area of the world, too--just email me!
