PAPUA NEW GUINEA NEWSPAPERS
Of the four regularly published newspapers in Papua New Guinea, three put some of their articles on the internet. The links for those newspapers follow. The ownership of our PNG newspapers is given below, because it does sometimes affect what is published... or not published.
The highest circulation daily (except weekends) newspaper in Papua New Guinea. A major shareholder is Rupert Murdoch's NEWS CORP, but Papua New Guinean superannuation funds also invest heavily.
THE NATIONAL: Owned mostly by a company whose parent also owns the giant Malaysian logging company Rimbunan Hijau. This logging company has extensive concessions in Papua New Guinea, and for that reason, no "anti logging" news is reported in this newspaper! It is published daily except for weekends.
THE INDEPENDENT: A church-owned, church run newspaper. Word Publishing produces this newspaper, as well as the popular Wantok niuspepa (not on the internet), which has the highest circulation of any of PNG's 4 regular newspapers. The Independent provides stories in greater detail and tends to print exposes of corruption. However, it has the smallest circulation of any of PNG's regular newspapers. It comes out once per week.
