ENGINE - "SUPERHOLIC"

INFO:

After a few years, Ray Alder & Joey Vera have taken another break from Fates Warning to deliver us a new Engine disc. This time out, Engine gives us 11 new tracks, including a cover of the Cure's "Fascination Street". This set of tunes starts out much like the debut from Engine, a song that has incredible energy. The opening cut this time around is "Losing Ground", & much like "Monster" on the debut, the song has a great groove to it, alot of engery & immediately sets the tone for the rest of the record.
From the opening track, you know that this album is going to be a continuation of the previous album. All of the songs on this disc center around great structure, catchy hooks, & powerful guitar tracks. Throw in Ray's aggressive, yet melodic & extremely catchy melodies, & you get a great disc from start to finish. The music is a little more modern sounding on this release than the debut. I could easily hear a few of these songs being played on your typical rock radio station that plays stuff like Godsmack, Tool, and other bands along those lines.
I usually like to pick out a few songs as key tracks or highlights, but this album is so consistant, it's really useless to do that. Once again, this disc is great from start to finish. The cover of the Cure's "Fascination Street" is great. It's one of those cover songs that when you hear it, you say, "I can't believe that nobody has already covered this song!". Eleven tracks total & everyone of them is great. The production is perfect for the style of music. You can hear everything very clear. My only gripe on the sound side of this is that I hear static on the quiet passages & in between the songs. It's got to be something w/Metal Blade & their production. I have the same problem with Masquerade's "Flux" disc. In any case, this is a must buy.
