Reno, Nevada -On Saturday, July 14, 1-3 p.m., the Nevada Historical Society will be hosting the sixth annual Family Fun Day at the Reno Museum, 1650 N.Virginia Street on the University campus. Admission is free, so round up the kids and join us for a variety of hands-on activities. Our camp cook will be dishing up ice cream, homemade cookies and lemonade from the chuckwagon. Sally Zanjani will be on hand to sign her new biography, Sarah Winnemucca, that day and Phillip I. Earl will be autographing his latest work., This Was Nevada, Vol. II: The Comstock Lode.

In the Changing Gallery, a new exhibition, Cowboy Up! One Hundred Years of Rodeo, will be featured. Sponsored by the Nevada Humanities Committee, the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundations, the Gannett Foundation and DynaGraphic Printing, the exhibition examines the evolution of rodeo from informal ranch hand competitions at the end of the roundup to the status of professional sport. Curated by Andrea Mugnier, former registrar of the Nevada Historical Society, the exhibition features artifacts, works of art and vintage photographs from the collections of the Nevada Historical Society, the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Professional Rodeo Hall of Fame and former rodeo participants. This exhibition will be up until September 22.

In July, the Nevada Historical Society will also be sponsoring Broncos and Buckaroos: Cowboy Arts Day Camp, a three-day celebration of cowboy culture. Scheduled for July 10, 17, and 24 from 10 a.m. to noon, the programs are designed for kids 8-15. Funding for this program is being provided by the Nevada Humanities Committee.

Family Fun Day and the Buckaroo Camp are part of Reno's annual Artown Festival, July 1-31, featuring some 200 events offered by cultural organizations and local businesses in three dozen locations citywide.
