Overated let's us know that punk's not dead...even in the mountains of Big Bear.
GILBERT: Howdy doody. We are here with Overated, am I correct? Overated from...?
OVERATED: Big Bear.
GILBERT: Big Bear. Do you guys know Onside?
OVERATED: No.
GILBERT: Do you guys know UNI?
OVERATED: Yeah.
GILBERT: Those are my homies, dude. Anyways, back on the subject. Ok, I want you guys to state your name and what you play.
OVERATED: Im Brian, I play guitar.
OVERATED: Cory, drums.
OVERATED: Jaden, guitar.
GILBERT: Thats awesome guys. Can you tell us a little about the band. I dont know if you guys have a spokesman or something, or like whos the main daddy, the main squeeze? Or if you guys want to do it as a group, you know its cool with me. We want to know about your band, like what style, first of all, what style are you and why did you pick that style?
OVERATED: Our style is punk rock.
GILBERT: Our band is a punk rock band and we have a lot of feeling about punk rock. We feel its a feeling that sticks to your ribs, you know its like when you wake up Christmas morning and you cant wait to open your presents, thats how we feel punk rock is, do you guys feel the same way?
OVERATED: Yeah.
OVERATED: Yeah.
OVERATED: Yeah.
OVERATED: Totally.
OVERATED: Totally.
GILBERT: We are like the punk rock Mafia up in here, so they are going to be here in a little bit, but yeah. Um, so could you tell us um, a little bit about the band, like when you guys started or how you guys met maybe, or I dont know, have you guys been together for awhile?
OVERATED: Well, we started like a year ago. I started it. It was me, him and another guy and we kicked him out. And added another guy and then,
OVERATED: Kicked him out.
OVERATED: Yeah, kicked him out.
OVERATED: Then added another guy and kicked him out and added another guy and kicked him out.
GILBERT: Wow, you guys kick a lot of people out.
OVERATED: Well, for good reason.
GILBERT: Yeah, its always for good reason.
OVERATED: Yeah.
GILBERT: Could you guys tell us, is there any other styles you guys like? Like, I know with like Prototype and with our band, and with Solid Mind they like a lot of different styles, some like alternative and some like rap and you know you guys are in a punk band, so maybe if someone does like alternative, how is it like putting different styles together? I dont know if you guys all like the same type of music, or what.
OVERATED: Well, our bass player likes alternative.
OVERATED: I like hard-core.
GILBERT: I know like in our band I like punk rock and hard core and our drummer likes Celtic Hymns and like DC Talk, and stuff thats really not good for you. (laughter all around) So um, is it hard working with people like that, because I know its hard to put those styles together.
OVERATED: Um, yeah.
GILBERT: Do you guys ever like argue and have long debates?
OVERATED: No, were actually really good together.
GILBERT: So, how many shows do you guys play a week?
OVERATED: More like a month.
GILBERT: How many shows do you guys play a month?
OVERATED: One.
OVERATED: One.
Yeah....Overated
GILBERT: "One? Um, who have you guys played with, like bands you guys have played with?
OVERATED: Weve played with Solid Mind.
GILBERT: Solid Mind.
OVERATED: I cant remember who else, oh yeah weve played with Sacred Faith.
OVERATED: Thats about it.
GILBERT: What are you guys views as a band like what is your goal as a band, as Overated. What do you guys want to see yourselves do or what?
OVERATED: Our main focus is to play for God. To glorify God and then like have fun and be successful. We want to go as far as we can.
GILBERT: Do all of you guys have the same focus?
OVERATED: Totally.
GILBERT: As musicians, you know how long have you guys been playing?
OVERATED: What do you mean?
GILBERT: Like guitar or, what do you play, guitar?
OVERATED: Yeah, I play guitar. Ive been playing for like a year.
OVERATED: A couple years or two.
GILBERT: Youre the drummer, right?
OVERATED: Yeah.
OVERATED: Ive been playing guitar for two years.
GILBERT: And how is it for you guys, do you guys enjoy it? Is if kind of frustrating? Learning and stuff, because I know with us, we get really frustrated and stuff a lot because weve only been playing for six months and you know, we have lots of shows like we always do shows all of the time, and so is it like that for you guys? Like really frustrating kind of like trying to rush stuff and trying to get songs down?
OVERATED: Yeah, a little bit.
OVERATED: We just got some new songs and so were kind of frustrated with it.
GILBERT: As a musician, how would you guys rate yourselves like from one to ten, like on a scale.?
OVERATED: Like skill levels?
GILBERT: Yeah.
OVERATED: Five.
GILBERT: That, your name...
OVERATED: Oh, Im Brian, five.
OVERATED: Cory, probably about a five.
OVERATED: Im Jaden, probably about a five or a six.
GILBERT: So how is it like working with each other, like how is it like going on the road? Are you guys like really good friends and stuff, or?
OVERATED: Yeah.
GILBERT: Do you guys like enjoy being with each other?
OVERATED: Yeah.
OVERATED: Yes.
CHRIS CENTOLA (Solid Mind): Could we set up our stuff?
GILBERT: No Chris. Hold on Chris, like two minutes.
GILBERT: How would you guys um, where do you guys want to be like in five years or, like I know answer me this question, where do you want to be in five years, and like whats you influence? Like I know a lot of peoples influences are like Christ or like you know their parents, or like what motivates you guys to keep going?
OVERATED: For me, Jaden its my parents, um well Christ, all my friends and probably just the band, and thats for me.
GILBERT: Cory?
OVERATED: Probably Christ is the first and then like friends that have been helping me a lot throughout the last couple like months.
OVERATED: Me too. (Laughter all around) No really, what both of them said, they were like me.
GILBERT: Totally.
OVERATED: Another thing is like watching another band thats better, or like bigger. Like looking at East West or something like they like headline, you know that influences me to get better because someday it will be kind of like nice to be a headliner.
GILBERT: Way cool guys. Well, thanks a lot guys.
