Sum41 Admit To Being Killers

While hanging out with Sum41 over the holidays ChartAttack was finally able to weasel info out of them regarding the title of their debut full-length album. While recording in L.A. the engineer at the studio remarked, "You boys is all killer and no filler." They looked at each other and instantly found the title that had eluded them for so long.

To be released in March through Aquarius, All Killer And No Filler will contain 13 crunching power-pop-punk tracks. They wouldn't reveal exact song titles, obviously waiting to disclose that in another interview, but drummer Steve Jocz promised that they had titles as clever as "Grab The Devil By The Horns And **** Him Up The ***."

Singer/guitarist Deryck Whibley did divulge that they've matured a little since recording Half Hour Of Power. When asked about why they would mature when we loved them as juvenile pranksters, he stated, "The songs are better. We're getting better [musically], but I think we're getting worse [in the maturity department]." He cites the example of the studio trashing that he was involved in as a sample of his juvenile delinquent abilities. "I didn't have to put it [strips of wood he tore down] back up." Jocz adds, "They asked him to, but he didn't. They were angry about that, but we left the next day."

"They told us to trash the lounge, but we didn't want to trash the lounge," Jocz goes on to explain. "There was nothing in the lounge," adds Whibley. They didn't make any milk bombs while in L.A.... they made something even worse... so despicable that ChartAttack won't release the shitty ingredients.

These four guys were seduced into music on the belief that it was full of the glamourous life, high livin' and gorgeous women. Granted, they don't want to go back to their day jobs, but they have begun to learn a few lessons in debauchery, and studio trashing, and having the right people around to clean up after them.

"We're at the age where we just don't care and we want to have as much fun as we possibly can. If our fun is a little different than others, who's to blame?" Whibley says, explaining the band's philosophy. While Sum41 are out having fun, the people they've hired to clean up their mess can be really anal about publishing stories about their antics. "We selected people that are very anal to be around us, so we don't go too crazy," remarks Jocz. "They're like our proctologists."

They've also been partying, drinking and gambling with Mighty Mighty Bosstones lead singer Dicky Barrett. It hasn't effected their work habits, although it has taken a toll on their wallets. When they tour Canada they have to do it during breaks in their U.S. schedule, which could be few and far between once All Killer And No Filler is released. Which means there'll be even more pent-up anticipation as they recently sold-out the 400 capacity upstairs El Mocambo in Toronto and have received extensive airplay on local radio station The Edge. main
