Vampires are the central species in the night world series. Their night world flower is a black rose. In the night world there are two types of vampires…made and lamia.

Made vampires are humans that were turned into vampires. They stay the same age eternally and can't have kids.

Lamia are direct descendants of Maya (see the night world history). They can grow old (If they wish to) and they can have children.

Vampires in the night world need to feed about once a day average, they can eat human food, but there's no nutrition in it. They can heal from almost any injury(Except wood which can hurt or kill them) and have more control over their bodies. They can change into animals (in theory) but Maya is the only known vampire who has enough power to do this. Sunlight inhibits vampire powers at first, but they can go out in it. Fire and staking are about the only ways to kill one. They are telepathic and can see and hear better than humans.

In the night world they actually give a scientific explanation as to why vampires drink human blood. Lisa explains through her characters that vampire blood is like the ultimate cure…and the ultimate poison. Vampire blood cures almost everything but can't carry oxygen. The vampire blood destroys the blood cells that carry oxygen and so they need human blood so that they can breathe.
