the politique statement written for the United Nations distribution of:
my eyes are atomic weaponry:
notes from the atomic age

for the distribution my eyes are atomic weaponry to the united nations delegates (see how my eyes are atomic weaponry is taking over the globe)
i was asked to pen a statement describing in more depth myself, my intent, and the global ramifications of the work.
after some intial struggle i completed the statement. bellow is the second and final draft of this statement.

my name is jeremy radcliffe ross and i created my eyes are atomic weaponry: notes from the atomic age at the age of seventeen. i am a senior at friends' central school, located just outside of philadelphia, pennsylvania. i was raised in the faith of the society of friends, commonly known as quakerism, and i attend radnor meeting, also located outside of philadelphia, pennsylvania.

in the quaker tradition, there's a belief that there is that of God in us all and that God can call on any of us at any time to speak His or Her message. upon hearing this call, it becomes our responsibility to deliver it to those around us. to me, my eyes are atomic weaponry felt like that kind of call.

my eyes are atomic weaponry is a document which is focused on america and america's failure to meet its global obligations towards pursuing a course of nuclear disarmament. this is not to imply that america is the only nation that has thus failed. every current and emerging nuclear weapons state shares in this blame. america is not the only nation which relies on a policy of nuclear deterrence. america is not the only nation whose nuclear arsenal endangers all humanity. what america has done is fail to provide much needed leadership towards global nuclear disarmament.

i consider myself a representative of a great many who believe that nuclear weapons and policies of nuclear deterrence needlessly jeopardize countless lives and should be purged from the planet as soon as can be done. the sentiments that i express are sentiments that exist in all nuclear weapons states. the scourge of nuclear weapons will not be ended by unilateral disarmament on the part of any one nation. we must band together as one people on this earth and finally shed this great nuclear-burden collectively.

my eyes are atomic weaponry is in a way, a plea. a plea that the united states of america and all of the nations of the world, deal with the menace of nuclear weapons not in terms of political expediency and self-interest, but in terms of a broader humanity and in terms of how to insure a better life for us all. i only can pray that that plea is heard.
