Test Your "9-Q":

#1 - The Pilot Episode

So, you think you know your games and the systems you play them on huh? Well, sit up straight and set your tray in the upright position and prepare for a plate full of video game trivia!

How do you play the game? Well, it's as easy as picking A,B,C or D. How you do that is another thing. Since I suck at HTML and know nothing about Java, you'll have to bust out a pencil and paper to keep track of your answers. You can either print this quiz up, or take the quiz right now (provided you have scrap paper handy). Answers and scoring will be provided on another page by clicking on the link at the bottom of the quiz. It's easy, it's possibly fun, and it kills time. So, are you ready?

Okay, so as the first "episode" of the 9-Q, the theme of this quiz will be gaming "firsts". This could mean first games in a series, firsts in consoles, introduction to characters and so on. Keep in mind that this has to do with the "firsts" in gaming.

ONE

So, in November 2001 you picked up Microsoft's first video game system, the Xbox. How much do you remember about the launch titles for the system? Okay, which of the following Xbox titles was NOT available at the systems lauch?

[A] - Halo
[B] - Blinx : The Time Sweeper
[C] - Project Gotham Racing
[D] - Fusion Frenzy

TWO

Hey, remember the Super Game Boy accessory released in 1994 that would allow you to play Game Boy games on your Super NES through sticking the Game Boy cartridge in a bulky SNES cartridge? Sure you do. You might also remember that certain Game Boy games would have certain "enhancements" made specifically for the Super Game Boy, such as a broader color pallate and a special border. So, what was the first Super Game Boy Enhanced title?

[A] - Wario Land : Super Mario Land 3
[B] - Mega Man V
[C] - Donkey Kong
[D] - Tetris Blast

THREE

Here's another question about a video game launch. This time we're talking about the launch of the Nintendo 64. Two, count them TWO games were lauched with the system on September 29, 1996. What were they?

[A] - Super Mario 64 and Wave Race 64
[B] - Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64
[C] - Pilotwings 64 and Wave Race 64
[D] - Wave Race 64 and Cruis'n USA

FOUR

The first Gran Turismo hit the PlayStation console in 1998, and pretty much changed the face of racing games as we know it. Back then, it didn't have as robust of a car lineup as the current GT3 and the upcoming GT4 do. Which of the following auto manufacturers is NOT in the original Gran Turismo?

[A] - Chevrolet
[B] - Dodge
[C] - Ford
[D] - Acura

FIVE

Which "next generation" console of the mid-late 90's was the first to have an analog stick on their controller?

[A] - Atari Jaguar
[B] - Sega Saturn
[C] - Sony PlayStation
[D] - Nintendo 64

THIS, THAT AND THE OTHER THING

Time for a little break. This question may seem similar to the Dis Or Dat™ questions of the You Don't Know Jack series, except I changed the name. Clever, huh? Anyway, you'll have two answers to choose from for seven things below. Just decide which is which, okay?

Seeing how this is about "firsts", this question begs the question "First Person or Third Person?". If you think the game is mostly in first-person view, answer with [A]. If the game is in a third-person view most of the time, answer with [B]. Got it?

[A] FIRST PERSON . . . . . . . [B] THIRD PERSON

[1] - GoldenEye 007
[2] - 007 : Everything Or Nothing
[3] - Syphon Filter
[4] - Medal Of Honor Frontline
[5] - Metroid Prime
[6] - PN 03
[7] - Dead To Rights

SIX

The Sega Dreamcast is probably one of the most underappreciated video game consoles of all time. It had a great set of games and it was the first to truly include online support and play. Speaking of online play, which was the first Dreamcast title to support ACTUAL online multiplayer gameplay?

[A] - NBA 2K1
[B] - Chu-Chu Rocket!
[C] - Crazy Taxi
[D] - NFL 2K1

SEVEN

Here comes a pretty obscure question. Put on your thinking caps for this one. What is the difference in YEARS between the first 3-D Metroid title (Metroid Prime) and the first Metroid title produced? And I'm going off the year displayed on the title screen of the game.

[A] - 15 years
[B] - 16 years
[C] - 17 years
[D] - 18 years

EIGHT

The first F-Zero appeared as a launch title to the Super NES in 1991. While a great, fast and fun racing game, the game had a flaw within it's time trial. For some reason, you could't race on all tracks of the game in the time trial. Which of the following courses could you NOT race on in the time trial?

[A] - Mute City I
[B] - Death Wind I
[C] - Red Canyon I
[D] - Port Town II

NINE

Here's a pretty easy one for you, provided you're familliar with the series. Which Mega Man game (in the series) introduced us to the robot dog Rush?

[A] - Mega Man 2
[B] - Mega Man 3
[C] - Mega Man 4
[D] - Mega Man 5

TEN

Okay, last question. This one involves the first issue of Nintendo Power magazine. What month and year did the first issue of Nintendo Power roll out? Even though it was bi-monthly at the time, I'm looking for the debut month (which would be the first month on the issue).

[A] - June 1988
[B] - July 1988
[C] - January 1989
[D] - June 1989
