History and Honours

History

Chunky Norwich were formed in 1999 as a six a side Sunday team taking players from the ashes of the defunct Brucia Forsyth FC. Players were also drafted in from Broomfields Monday League champions Real Ale Madras as well as high fliers at Broomies on a Tuesday Halestorm FC.

Chunky only lasted one season in the Sunday league as the call of Yorkshire puddings and watching the Wire get leathered became too strong. In their only season the Chunksters managed to be runners up in Div A and get to the semi-final of the cup. This was an underachievement in the eyes of their formidable manager The Rat.

The team was given an overhaul for their introduction into Wednesday night soccer at Sankey and things started to go well. Chunky swept away the opposition to take the Div B title at their first attempt and in the same season they also took the cup to win a famous double.

The Rat and skipper Magnum knew that life in the top league would be tough against quality opposition such as Fernhurst (now Manor Fell), Seven Woods (now AC Sparta Praha) and the dominant Talos. The skipper and the manager therefore decided to adopt a three season plan whereby they would make sure they avoided relelgation for the first two seasons before making an assault on the championship at their third attempt.

Last season was Chunky's third season in the top flight and they started their title bid off badly as they fell to Woodlands by 2 goals to 0. It seemed the plan was not in the making and that Chunky would do well to avoid the drop. They managed to pick up a lucky 1-0 win against Inter Spice in their next game and ground out a good 2-1 victory over Fordton in their third outing. What proved to be crucial was that the goal Fordton scored would be the last anyone would get against Chunky that season as they went on an 11 game streak without conceding a goal.

Two 1-0 wins over title challengers Manor Fell, a 4-0 revenge against the Woodies, a 1-0 win over the strong Monaco, two 0-0 draws against Sparta, two victories against Penketh Select and a 5-0 drubbing of Inter Spice saw Chunky take the title for the first time in their history. People pointed to the fact that the relegated Fordton Rovers scored more goals than the winners Chunky but by letting in only 3 goals all season they proved their class. To all the teams that claim Chunky are boring and not worthy champions the challenge is to come and beat us before opening your mouths. Adding the cup to the trophy cabinet after a penalties win against Monaco in the semi and one in the final against the Woodies, showed the season was no fluke. Its going to be hard for the Chunksters to retain their title but with 4 points from 6 at the start of the season when Chunky are traditionally terrible bodes well.
