Pagan Band Review:

Inkubus Sukkubus

Inkubus Sukkubus

This band started off around 1989 in a town in England called Cheltenham. The band consists of their lead singer Candia, ex-Screaming Dead axeman Tony McKormack on guitar and a varying number of other musicians, including Adam Henderson (orig. the drummer, but has since taken over bass guitar), Bob Gardner, ex-bassist who played on several of their albums, and Mick Egan on bodhran. Candia and Tony are the two focal members who write all the songs and are Pagan.

The band members are interested in Paganism, Witchcraft, and Vampirism, which explains why most of their songs fall into these subjects. They are often mentioned as the ones who coined the term Pagan Rock. Since they have a very gothic sound, both Pagans and Goths come together at concerts to listen to them.

Inkubus Sukkubus also has some real controversial songs about Christians that talk about the past historical events such as the signing of the Inquisition, the Crusades, and other events that shouldn't be forgotten.

Many bands have toured and played with Inkubus Sukkubus such as Cradle of Filth, Nosferatu, and Danzig. They have toured many countries including Germany, France, Belgium, and America.

Their newest album just came out titled Supernature, which makes it their 8th album to date. A lot of their music is featured on compilation CDs like the Goth Box and the Siouxsie & the Banshees Tribute CD. They play at many Pagan and related festivals around the world.

Their influences include Sisters of Mercy, All About Eve, and, bizarrely, Fleetwood Mac.

Unlike many goth bands, they frequently use the bodhran, which gives a unique feel to their songs.

I like the fact they are one of the few bands that can bring both goths and pagans together in harmony at their concerts and such, but I found that they don't have all that much stuff on their site, which is the main thing I dislike.

For first time listeners I recommend Craft of the Wise.

Overall, I give Inkubus Sukkubus a 5 out of 5.
