This suit is possibly the most difficult to interpret, out of the four other suits of the Minor Arcana. Even though there are some tricky cards, Swords has a great number of problematic meaning. This is because a sword itself can serve two purposes. It can be used to aid, or it can be used to kill.

The element for this suit is Air. Swords are associated with the mind, decisions, ideas, etc. They can also tell of other products that our mind puts out, such as fear and worry. This doesn’t mean that something bad is going to happen, just that the questioner is or will be worrying over certain matters. The swords are linked to the astrological signs Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.

Ace of Swords
You are about to become majorly involved in something that needs you undivided attention. It may involve a creative idea or a new way of looking at the world. You may also find your self in a difficult situation, which will involve a lot of thinking and energy.

Reversed: Some deep thinking is needed before rushing into any type of commitment, because you may realize that you have over looked some important truths and ideas. Be more considering in your actions because you may not realize you’ve done something until it’s too late.

Two of Swords
You feel you are stuck in a situation where you can’t move forward or back and are isolated. But if you confront certain fears you should realize that the next step is a rather easy one to take.

Reversed: Look again at what is occurring around you. You may be surprised that you do not know all the true facts or aren’t looking in the right places. You are being caught up in an inner debate of morals and prejudice that is blinding you from seeing what needs to be seen.

Three of Swords
You may find it hard to cope with emotional injury or sorrow. You may also be feeling double crossed or disrespected. But, things will take a turn for the better if you take life by the horns and are honest about what is bugging you.

Reversed: Your problems your current relationship is coming to an end. Although relief will ensue, you should think back on that mistake and make sure it never happens again. Try not to place blame on others for your misfortune, even though it would be remarkably easy.

Four of Swords
Your hard work will soon be paying off. Relaxing and rest are indicated as well as the completion of an important project. Even if you don’t want to, you need to take a little rest for a while and cool down. This card could also indicate the healing period after an illness.

Reversed: Now would be a good time to take a break. You are feeling exhausted in more ways then one. If you have recently engaged in a fight with a friend or loved one, now would be a good time to make amends.

Five of Swords
Now is a good time to swallow your pride, accept your limitations and admit defeat. Try to concentrate more on a project that you feel will truly succeed.

Reversed: You may soon find yourself embarrassed by your own personal actions of failures. You may feel that you’re at loss and your enemies are a point ahead, but recover and prove that you can do it.
