Drummer/vocalist Chris Reifert formed this death metal act with guitarist Danny Coralles and Eric Cutler in Florida, USA, after his involvement with Death on their 1987 debut,
Scream Bloody Gore. Sadus bass player Steve DiGiorgio guested on Severed Survival before Ken Sovari was recruited for a European tour with Bolt Thrower and Pestilence; he was then replaced by Cutler's brother, Steve. The Retribution For The Dead EP and Mental Funeral saw Autopsy continue in their sludgy death vein with gore-laden lyrics. Fiend For Blood again featured DiGiorgio, before Josh Barohn (ex-Suffocation) was recruited as bass player. Acts Of The Unspeakable continued the grisly lyrical approach, but encountered problems over gruesome cover artwork, with album covers being destroyed by Australian authorities and similar T-shirts confiscated by German customs. Shitfun found the band trawling familiar territory, with song titles such as "Bowel Ripper", "Burnt To A Fuck" and "Excremental Ecstasy". After one further album the outfit disbanded, although Reifert went on to play with the equally shocking Abscess.
