When I first listened to "Consuming Impulse" I was shocked at how much the band had changed from their debut album "Malleus Malleficarum" which was more like technical Death Metal and it lacked heaviness, but don't get me wrong it is still a good album. "Consuming Impulse" is where they went all out brutal and through anything technical out the window. It is just straight out brutal, extreme, in your face Death Metal. The song writing is bit simpler also, but the music is catchy and this album never gets boring. The vocals by Martin Van Drunen's sounds like he's being tortured throughout the recording of the album, with his painful screams of agony.

The production which was done by Harris Johns is top notch while keeping the sound rough yet clean, and heavy. The guitar sound of Patrick Mameli and Patrick Uterwijk is also extremely heavy.

Pestilence had changed for the good on this album. Some of my favorite tracks are "Suspended Animation", "The Trauma" which is an ultra sick track, "Echoes of Death" which has a eery sounding keyboard during the track.

If you liked "Malleus Malleficarum" you will enjoy this one, but like I said it is not as technically oriented and "Consuming Impulse" is also more memorable. This is definitely a legendary album which must be added to any Death Metal collection. If you get your hands on this brutal masterpiece BUY IT!!
