     The town of ATIMONAN was founded on February 4, 1608 by a woman named SIMEONA MANGABA. She first established the town along Maling River, now known as Atimonan River. Atimonan was named after the popular name of its founder – ATE MONANG.

     Coasting along Quezon province’ shoreline, Atimonan is located 175 kilometers south of Manila, traversed by the Daang Maharlika, a 45 minute drive from the Provincial Capital City of Lucena. It has a total land area of 24.475 hectares representing 2% of the total land area of Quezon Province, with a population of 54,283 as of 1995 and composed of 42 barangays. It is a second class municipality with an estimated financial resource of p31,171,442.62 for fiscal year 1997.

Topography:

     Atimonan is situated on a rolling terrain approximately 53.5 Nautical miles at 43 degrees southeast of the National Capital Region with the highest point of elevation at 426.8 meters or 1,400 feet above sea level at the Quezon National forest park.

     The Poblacion is located at generally .0 -1% slope at 13 degrees 3’ southeast with mean declination at annual magnetic chance of 2’ westerly. The municipalities being drained by the Atimonan Maling River.
