Matthew Quotes

Before Po5

♦  "I was seduced by the money of modelling," he admits. "I was looking for a way to support myself in college." -- Matthew Fox

♦  His first acting job was a Clearasil commercial, Fox says "I wasn't the one with the zit, I made fun of the one with the zit. I don't know which was worse."-- Matthew Fox

Po5

After Po5

♦  He spent quality time with his wife and children and joined a Los Angeles repertory company.

♦  Matthew shaved his head after Party of Five to distance himself from Charlie Salingar.

  Q&A from article:

  Q:
Matthew, what were you doing after "Party of Five"?
A: I’ve been focusing on my family, but it was also an intentional move to let people forget about me in "Party of Five." I felt "Party of Five" was a show that was written by women for women –not that it’s a bad thing. But I was frustrated by the fact that the male characters on the show were written to be what women say they want a man – and that’s true. But they also want the baser, darker, intense whole other side that the male gender encompasses. My character in "Party of Five" was a pretty soft character, and I felt like I wanted to give everybody a little bit of time to forget that version of a man that I was presenting, and come back doing something different.

Haunted

♦  "It's a visual show, which I love," Fox says. "Especially after my last experience (Party of Five), where I was always very frustrated about how nonvisual the show was. This is storytelling in film the way it's supposed to be done. I'm really into it. Man, I'm psyched. Honestly." -- Matthew Fox

♦  "After six years as Charlie Salinger on 'Party of Five,' industry people began to perceive me as the character," he explained, "so I looked for something really dark and different, which was 'Haunted'. It got great reviews but didn't catch on." -- Matthew Fox

♦  "I was slightly relieved when it didn't do well. I was never home," he recalled, sighing."I didn't see my kids for four or five days at a time. That's when I decided to take a couple of years off, then look for something very different from what I had done in the past. It was 'Lost', a terrific series with a large ensemble cast next to me."

Lost

♦  "I knew that it was utterly original. [There] was nothing like it on television, and I felt that all the ingradients were there for something really, really big" -- Matthew Fox

♦  When Matthew received the script for the Lost pilot, he says "[I felt] like a kid opening up a toy box."

♦  "It was just the best script I've ever read. I just love the entire premise and the opportunity that gives this incredible cast to do some really fantastic dramatic material. I was completely 100 percent sold, totally excited about it." -- Matthew Fox

♦  Matthew originally read the part for Sawyer, but JJ Abrams saw him as Jack.

♦  He clearly impressed Abrams at his audition, because the co-creator let Fox read the entire top-secret pilot script. "He kept running in and out of the room every 20 minutes and going 'Do you like it, do you like it?' I said 'I'm loving it but you have to let me me finish it" -- Matthew Fox.

♦  "Jack Sheppard's life and the responsibility he takes for the situation he's in comes from a dark, complex and twisted relationship with his father that is wonderful to explore." -- Matthew Fox

♦  "It's clear to me that 'Lost' is a dual title, referring to people lost on an unknown island and lost emotionally or spiritually, through extreme circumstances, they will find themselves," he said. "And we're using flashbacks in amazing ways to tell the story of each character, including why they boarded this particular flight in Australia." -- Matthew Fox

♦  His Favorite moment: When Sawyer realized he'd met Jack's father. "I love that there's all these very subtle intermingling even before they got on the plane -- and it has so much to do with destiny and fate and why these people ended up on this particular flight and why it was doomed to go down." -- Matthew Fox.
