SUNDAY WITH BOOKS
A group of avid readers meet every four to six weeks. The schedule is arranged to accomodate the majority of the participants and books are chosen in much the same way. Participants are encouraged to suggest a title, an author, a favorite time, or subject. Past readings have focused on Medieval mystery, Native American writers, Indiana writers, American lives and times. A university scholar, or an author, is invited to guide the discussion and offer insight into the story and the history surrounding the book and the author. The books are provided by the Indiana Humanities Council or through the inter-library loan program, and occasionally FRIENDS has purchased the books. The meeting almost always takes place in the library meeting room at 2:00 PM, and finishes at 4:00 PM.

Our effort is to introduce babies and their families to the joy of reading. Our project is patterned on a National Library Association program. It began in April 2000 with a grant from the Northern Indiana Community Foundation. FRIENDS provide books for Healthy Families, WIC, Home Healthcare, and the County Health Department. The books are distributed by visiting staff. A gift packet contains a board or cloth book as well as library and social services information. If there is another child in the family age five or younger, they are also included.
BOOK SALE
Throughout the year, FRIENDS gather all the books they can find, sort them into common categories, arrange them on tables in the library meeting room and invite all readers to comeand purchase. It takes about a day to prepare for the sale, and we call on members to help for an hour or two during the three day event. Workers always get first choice and members who cannot help are invited before the doors open to the public. The money from sales is used by FRIENDS to achieve our purpose of supporting our library in their endeavors.

OK, so they don't let me drive anymore. Just one little accident and no more interstellar jaunts. Some earthlings are so sensitive.

Hey! Speaking of computers, does anyone out there know what the key marked
"SELF DESTRUCT" means? Maybe I should just give it a gentle push. Hold your breath.
