GUARDIANS OF THE FLAME is the best surprise of the year. A band with underrated
musicians. The unique guitar playing of the talented Jack Starr, the amazing
drums and rhythm guitar of Joe Hasselvander, the great vocals of Shmoulik
Avigal and the effective bass of Ned Meloni. An excellent musicianship for
a perfect playing delivering the goods, pure heavy metal ! Opener "The Flame
That Never Dies" sounds like a divine power of the metal flame. "Conspiratos
Sanctos" is a threatening and rolling thunder. "Cry For Dawn" is fast and
raging. Instrumental "Anthem For The Nations" has the right feelings. "Sharon
Of The Woods" is a bewitching and wonderful song. The gates of metal heaven
are opened with the celtic sounding of the anthemic "Under A Savage Sky".
"I Stand Alone" is a forceful drive where the battle is never lost. "Personal
Demons Dethroned" is an effective ripper. "Masters Of Fate" is an epic and
strong tune, a memorable song. Last track is the emotional instrumental "Return
From The Ashes". "Under A Savage Sky" is a mighty heavy metal cd, and pure
metal album like this one will always be superior to the trendy metal albums
of the moment, just because this is real metal played with solid roots and
from the heart by true musicians. Definitely an highlight album of 2003,
and a masterpiece to have in your records !
