OMEGA "The Prophet" LP Metal Legions
A re-release of their 1985 lp only for the NWOBHM lovers. To be honest, it's my first experience with them as I didn't know this band in the eighties. Opener "The Dark" is a great piece with a threatening and doomy atmosphere. "Shadows Of The Past", played epic and heavy, continues the dark mood. "The Prophet" is a melancholy length song looking like a cross between doom and progressive rock, and it works really good. If Side A is excellent, Side B has not the same quality. We find the good with "Yesterday's Children", a powerful piece riding the storm, and "The Child", a welcome return to progessive epic heavy metal to finish the album. And we find the average with "Drive Me Crazy", a very traditional british heavy/speed with the "come on girl and love me because I rock" attitude, and "Day Tripper", a cover of the BEATLES which helps in nothing, what a weak tune... But at the end, this is a quite remarkable album, more in the epic progressive doom than in the usual NWOBHM, and giving a real pleasure of listening when played in the stereo.
