RIFFMASTER GENERAL "A Trust Betrayed" CD Manqueller
Because of the "We Like That" track, I wondered if UK was sending us an heir of Witchfinder General. The answer is no (and I don't think there will be a band rivaling with Witchfinder General one day). But what I only waited was a good album, and that is one. Instrumental opener "The G-Men" sounds really like the arrival of a troop ready for battle. "Bloody Vengeance (I Am Destroyer)" is a mid-tempo track with Bay Area metal roots. "Fear Before The Fall" is a dark heavy rock tune with a vague resemblance to german Sinner. "These Scars" is another instrumental, an acoustic guitar accompanied by a great lead guitar. "Til Tomorrow Dies" is an imposing heavy song with a rock touch in the chorus. "Promised Land" starts fast with Bay Area thrash before a heavy break comes, then it becomes mid-tempo til the end. "The Wraith" is an energic rocker. "Surrender" is at the frontier between doom and power with an insistent rhythm. "Manqueller" is a mix of nwobhm and thrash (if you want an idea, imagine a cross between Angel Witch and Exodus). "The Eternal Heart" makes me think of Lemmy from Motorhead kicking the ass of some musicians in a rehearsal for playing a good rocking metal tune. Final song is "We Like That", an hymn entering the hall where are present Witchfinder General with "Music". As you can see, it's a varied album. An outstanding thing is RIFFMASTER GENERAL put their mark on each track. The album has this little extra which makes all the difference between an okay album and a great album. More than a good start!
