What's It
Worth? How do you Know?

So what's it worth? You've found a box of
books that has been in your attic or basement for eons. Maybe you've
bought a box of books at an auction or yard sale and there are some books
in there you've never read but think someone might be looking for one. But
how do you know if you should give it to The Salvation Army or sell it?
Here's a few books you might want to consider selling...have enough of
them you could send your youngest to college! Oh, and a word to the wise:
Remember that something is only worth as much as the next person is
willing to pay for it.
This list is by no means all-inclusive. The prices given are for books in
GOOD to VERY GOOD condition. I have chosen some of the more expensive
books, by the more popular authors as examples. While reading, remember
some of these books, in the original release, sold for as little as $1.99.
I've also included a couple of examples that, as little as five years ago,
sold for as much as $75.00...look at the price now, since they've been
re-released.
Here are a few more tips:
Remember the condition of the book you're trying to sell as rare, hard to
find, or collectable is extremely important. Handle these books with kid
gloves. Don't write on the books, and never stamp or affix stickers to any
book in your collection (see Caring For Your
Book Collection). Place valuable books in acid-free ephemeral bags.
Paperback books are printed on the cheapest paper available and degenerate
with almost no effort. Remember that a crease in the spine can decrease
the value of your collectable book by as much as 50%.
Remember that when a book is reprinted it may decrease the value of the
book tremendously so that only a first edition has any value.
Remember that it's all SUPPLY and DEMAND.
