On May 5, 2000 there was an unusual alignment of the sun, moon, and the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn within the same area of the sky, roughly in a line, although actually spread over 25 degrees. (A similar planetary grouping in April and May 2002 is discussed on this calendar page). Since in May 2000, the
planets closest to the earth were lined up in a row with the sun and moon, some writers were concerned that this increased gravitational stress on earth. Since in the second half of 1999 there had been increased numbers of earthquakes around the world (such as in Taiwan and Mexico in September 1999, Southern California in October 1999), some writers were concerned that there could be some major earthquakes worldwide in May 2000 from this increased gravitational stress on earth. It had been proposed by some writers that there could even be a polar shift (where the earth's poles move either because the earth itself shifts its axis, or the earth's crust slides over the core, because of the extra weight of the South pole ice cap making the earth unstable). Obviously a polar shift would be tremendously destructive to mankind, since tremendously high winds and great earthquakes will result. This polar shift idea was proposed by Hugh Auchincloss Brown, and the idea was supported by Edgar Cayce's prophecies. But polar shift was unlikely, and did not occur, fortunately.
It is true that there have been similar planetary alignments in the past, the last one being on Feb. 6, 1962.
It is also interesting that this alignment of planets on 5/5/2000 was also a powerful astrological pattern, which followed the unusual grand Cross Astrology pattern of August 18, 1999, of the planets in an astrological cross shape, a week after the solar eclipse of August 11 1999. The Grand Cross pattern of August 1999 was the most unusual Astrology pattern of the last 2000 years, and could be connected with the rise to power of the Antichrist, as described in the Bible's Book of
Revelation. The Antichrist is a Satanic imitation of Christ, who is expected to work miracles during the 7 year period before the Battle of Armageddon. He will appear to be a good man, and he will appear to have answers for the problems of the world. There are supposed to be wars, diseases, great earthquakes, and weather changes during the End Times period when the Antichrist appears. I think the 5/5/2000 pattern relates to the rise to power of the Antichrist, possibly he was elected in Russia in the March 2000 Russian Presidential elections. Note that President Putin was inaugurated as President of Russia (see this page for more on Putin, possible Antichrist) on May 7, 2000, 2 days after the 5/5/2000 planet alignment. Note that President Putin became Prime Minister of Russia on August 9, 1999, near the time of the other Millennium planetary pattern, the August 11 1999 solar eclipse over Europe and the August 18 1999 Grand Cross Astrology pattern of the planets in a cross shape. And note that President Putin became acting President of Russia as the new millennium began on Dec. 31, 1999. So the significance of 5/5/2000 relates to the rise to power of the Antichrist in Russia, as Russia's new President. But he will seem to be a good man, he will seem to be a peacemaker, he will appear to work miracles, because Satan comes as an Angel of Light. But he will lead us down the path to Armageddon. THAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF 5/5/2000: 2 DAYS LATER ON MAY 7, 2000 THE INAUGURATION OF THE ANTICHRIST IN RUSSIA -- THIS MAY TURN OUT TO BE A CRITICAL EVENT IN WORLD HISTORY!
Also, some Biblical Book of Revelation passages support the idea, of great earthquakes occurring in the near future, if we entered the "End Times" with year 2000:
Revelation 6:12 (King James Version): "and I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood"
Revelation 16:18: "...and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake and so great."
Also, note that April 2000 was a 666 day interval time, as discussed in the 666 day intervals section.
Some would argue that the planets other than the sun and moon have little gravitational force on the earth, and therefore increased earthquakes or a polar shift were unlikely to occur in May 2000. But another possibility is increased solar flares. Note that there is a passage in Revelation which appears to imply an increase in solar activity which scorches the earth with great heat:
16:8,9: "And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat..."
So could an increase in the sun's intensity actually cook the earth? Yes, that is possible, since it is thought that the sun's energy output varies, and at times it has decreased. Possibly a great solar storm might cause a temporary increase in the sun's energy output, actually roasting the earth for a while. And there was a giant solar flare on Oct. 28, 2003, the fourth largest ever recorded, and on November 4 2003 the largest ever seen. We will have to see if this indicates more giant solar flares to come in 2023-2030, perhaps the sun is entering a period of increased solar activity.
