Different But The Same

I am here to talk to you about yourselves and your children. You and your children are different, but exactly alike. We are Generation X, Because you have given us that name not because we have chosen it.

Do you not remember when you were a teenager and older people resented you because you were one? The music that you listened to and the movies that you watched were as disgusting to your parents as ours are to you. You may nor realize it, but you have become your parents. Do you remember when your parents pushed you away from the things that you liked and how that made you want it more? You are doing the same thing to us. The more you push us away from the things we like and want the more we will try to get them.

You say our music is much more profound than yours was, but we are progressing as you did. Look what you have set as a base for us to move up on with people like The Mamas and The Papas, Bon Jovi, and Jimmy Hendrix. The bases that your parents set for you were Elvis, The Beatles and Fats Domino. What did you expect from us? You upgraded from Elvis, The Beatles and Fats Domino to The Mamas and The Papas, Bon Jovi, and Jimmy Hendrix. As we upgraded to Nirvana, Matchbox 20 and bush.

Even the movies are the same. Your parents watched Beach Blanket Bingo and Gidget while you watched Jaws and Grease. As we watch Mortal Kombat and Scream. You see it's all upgraded from your parents to you to us. As our children will also be upgraded in time. Do you now see that we are like you and you are like your parents? As our children will be like us only upgraded. So you may say we are different, but we are the same.

So I ask you the next time you see a teenage boy with a shaved head or a teenage girl with blue lipstick, think about yourselves and your younger years. When guys wore their hair long and girls wore red eyeliner and remember we are just like you only a little more upgraded. Thank You.
