TEMPEST - TEMPEST (1984/MOSEKA RECORDS/USA) When entering the bandname TEMPEST on the rockdetector.com website you can find 6 different bands with that bandname, but not one of them is the TEMPEST I am about to review here. This TEMPEST hails from Ohio, USA and they released a mini-LP in 1984. Although they had 2 guitarists in their line-up, some of the included songs are very poppy, and somehow the sound like a mix between an AOR band (AGENT/AVION), New Wave (SIMPLE MINDS) and Melodic Poprock (LOVERBOY/HAYWIRE). It doesn't sound bad at all, but be aware that this isn't a pure AOR record, more like a Poprock record in Canadian tradition (think GLASS TIGER/THE OUTFIELD). Happily, songs like "Camera candy" and "Sidewalk seducer" are good strong catchy Melodic Poprockers, while "Queen of not now" is a beautiful AORish ballad. I have absolutely no idea whatever happened to the bandmembers, but for the die-hard 80s rockfans this is an interesting item to check out! Rating: 8.0 out of 10 |
