Slept Through High school, The Muckruckers, Solemite, The Locals, Stunt Monkey, and Dexter Danger
The Club, Pacifica
Jen: Ok let me start off my saying, MAPQUEST IS THE DEVIL! I got off work at 4:30 drove from Berk to San Mateo (or so I thought it was San Mateo) to go pick up Mel-o-dy and her friend Jenny. I left early to ensure I would be there in time. Yeah right! My destination was the Starbucks at Hillsdale mall, in SAN MATEO. Mel sent me directions to Hillsdale Blvd. WELL.... Mapquest took me to EAST Hillsdale Blvd in FOSTER CITY. Needless to say, I GOT LOST.... SO VERY LOST. After about an hour of driving around I found my way, with help from a friend (who happend to call me the SECOND I figured out I was lost.... I almost cried) and some random person at a hotel. I finally got there. Then we proceeded to the show. and got there late. We missed Slept Through High School AND The Muckruckers. We arrived and watched the first band....
Mel-O-dy: So jenni and i leave to go to the train station and take it up to san mateo.it seems that everytime i go anywhere with my friends, it's an adventure, like the goonies or something. We got to our stop and went across the street to the coffee place and sat down. a couple minutes later, Jen called and said she didnt know where she was. my dad lives in san mateo, so i know it alright, but not REALLY well... i tried to direct her to where we were, but, i couldn't exactly do it when i didn't know where she was. she figgured out what street she was on ans i proceded to ask these classic looking italian suits. It was all confusing, but eventually, she figgured out how to get there, and while we were waiting, this guy proceded to tell me that he spoke 5 languages, said the french alphabet to me and a bunch of other stuff in french, and listed off a bunch of countries he's been to... i take it he was in need of someone to talk to. so getting there was an adventure to say the least, but the drive was so awesome anyways, it was all foggy and such. when we FINALLY got there, the first thing we saw was this kid slip on a banana peel... now that shit was FUN-NY! good lord.
OK! Since we missed the first two bands I asked someone who WAS there to review Slept Through High School and The Muckruckers! Yey so heres her review.
Slept Through High School
I arrived at the show during a less-than-enjoyable cover of New Found Glory's "My Friend's Over You", and decided it wasn't worth my time to even go inside the door to check this band out. Which isn't to say they sucked, I have no idea because I didn't watch them. But I felt like wasting my time elsewhere. Muckruckers
I watched The Muckruckers entire set, and personally, I think they played very well. They put a lot of energy into their performance, namely Doug. I think there were some new songs that they played, and I don't remember anything sucking, so whatever was new must have been decent. I like their new set up... John appears to be a lovely drummer and Nick does an amazing job. I approve. The crowd didn't seem to really give a fuck whether they changed or not, the only way they could tell the difference is probably because Zach cared enough to mention it more than once. I can't really say if this show went better than the first one or not... I suppose by now they have had more practice and things went smoother for them but I didn't see any noticeable difference. Overall, I'd say the band works and performes really well together, they seem to put a lot of heart into their shows and they do a good enough job to make me return to see them countless times. We would like to thank our friend Andrea for her review! Solemite Jen`s Review: Solemite is a great band. They seriously know how to rock. I like how they have a ska-ish sound to them with the horn and keyboard. They are friendly people and put on a super great show. It is always nice to see a band have so much energy and put on such a rockin show. To be honest, I didnt see all of them, but they`re wonderful! Yey! Mel-o-dy`s Review: i love solemite. they're super-rad, that's all. The Locals
Jen`s Review: Once again, what a great live band. I`ve seen them plenty of times live and these guys know how to rock. Their songs are such wonderfully crafted and they are great muscians. It was nice to see the kids at Pacifica rock out so hard. I havent seen Solemite or The Locals a lot at Pacifica so it was nice to see them in a venue other then L3. (I <3 L3 but a change of scenery is always nice) The Locals played a great show. I dont know if anything can beat the time i saw them at the Get Up Kids at the Fillmore, they rocked out hard that night, but they definatly lived up to their standards tonight! Mel-o-dy`s Review: The Locals so super-fancy. They've got this unique sound that sounds like it's influenced by the Cars or The Who at points which is refreshing after hearing so many "punk" bands sing songs about the same thing with a slightly different beat. I realllly wanna see them again with Street To Nowhere, Dexter Danger and Short Round, but it's in fucking ALAMEDA! and on a fuckin THURSDAY! what's up with that bois?! oh, and ONE of the bois is a fox... Stunt Monkey:
Jen`s Review: I had only seen Stunt Monkey once before to my recollection and that was at The Cactus Club, and I didn`t watch them too much then. They are a fun band. I got singled out for being "angry" which I wasn`t, just had an expressionless face. :) They definetly rock out. We got a chance to talk to the drummer and hes a nice guy. It`s always good when a band is good and actually friendly. I hate "rockstar assholes." Mel, Jenni, and I danced around like hip-hoppsters and started a pretty decent sized "mosh pit." Being that I stand under 5 feet tall I got a bit hurt, but it was well worth the fun. Rawk on! Their show was energetic, well planned out, and they got the crowed moving. All together, a great performance. Mel-o-dy`s Review: Stunt Monkey was super energetic and fun. Jenni, Jen and i had a lot of fun. it was funny when aram singled marilyn out, good times. we all had a super rad time dancin and shit. i used to think these guys were buttcheeks for some dumbass reason, but now it seems they're in it for a good time, and who can argue with that? Dexter Danger: Jen`s Review: Once again, a wonderful show. They played a new song, I cannot remember the name, but it is super good. They have such a great response from the kids at pacifica because they play there so much it was nice to see them at home again. Dexter Danger is an awesome live band, sometimes I wish more bands would move around and be more "jumpy" and thats what I can always find in Dexter Danger. I can`t really think of anything negative to say so I`ll leave it at that, good show kids! Mel-o-dy`s Review: yeh i dug the new song too. i'm used to their set, usually the same songs with a few variations from time to time, so my ears perked up immideatly when i heard the new one. it's pretty fancy. i don't know if i've said this before, but DD has like a cult following, which is sometimes annoying with the "ohmygod!! it's Aymen!!" shreaks, but the vibe was hip tonite with everyone into it... i'm not gonna get all analytical about it tho, heh. One last thought by Jen Pacifica is an awesome place to see a show. The kids aren`t "rockstar assholes" they`re friendly people. I love it. BUT! They changed where the bands play and it got really hot. I hope Pacifica doesn`t come put like the Grange in Danville (where they are required to keep the doors closed, due to noise laws, and it gets sweltering in there. terrible) So maybe they should rethink that. Also, it kind of wasnt cool that the people running the show didn`t let Dexter Danger play one last song... whats another 3 minutes? ....and Mel-O-dy ok, i think i told like everyone at the show this, but i LOVE pacifica, it's so chill. i love the ambiance of the shows, i think i've only been to one show that wasn't SUPER rad. if anyone ever gets a chance, go climb that big ass rock next to the school across the street, it's awesome, don't fall tho. me and my friends did that one time and went exploring too, it was the coolest. not only that, but you have the FRESH AIR from the ocean (insert "gasp!!" here) i love the ocean, so it's awesome to be able to be at a show and sorta at the beach too. and whomever adults run the shows, i gotta hand it to you for not being assholes :) bye!
Thank you
Mel-O-dy and xJenx
