Well I arrived a bit late for their set, I only got to see a few songs played. I hadn`t heard the best things about this band but I went into it with an open mind. They played pretty basic pissed off punk rock music with predictable chords and general sound. The drummer looks like a kid I used to see all the time at Gilman St. I wonder if it was him. They played a song that was about George Bush, I don`t think the band likes him too much. I pretty much just wasn`t too impressed with them. They did display a decent amount of energy but didn`t really utalize the whole stage too much and didn`t try to get the crowd involved with the show. Overall they did ok, but i wouldn`t go buy their cd or anything.
Well sheesh, the moment I waited weeks for didn`t really live up to my full expectation. Since there were only two bands on the bill and the show started at 7 I thought that Alk3 would play an extra long set, well no, folks they didn`t. In fact they only played about an hour (maybe a little less). So, after waiting 45 minutes for them to come out (yes, a 45 minute set change- out of control) and hearing the same 4 songs over and over again (which consisted of the White Stripes and Transplants- ick) I think everyone was a bit irritable, I know I was. Anxious is another word to describe, we all just really wanted them to play. before I get to the show I just have to say how nice it was that even though the show sold out the club was HARDLY filled. More people attended the Muckrucker CD release show then they did this show. The only explaination I have for it was that since the tickets were so cheap people bought in bulk and then couldn`t get rid of them, we had 4 left over and couldn`t sell them because there were so many other people selling tickets. Ok so the show... After waiting and waiting for them to come on they did, and pretty much wowed me. It was my second time see them and they were much better this time around, probably because I am more of a fan now then I was then. They played about 10 songs, a short set. They didn`t play Radio which a lot of people were chanting for, kind of disappointing. The people I went with complained that they didn`t play any old songs (they did a couple, but I have to agree I would have liked to hear more) but I think everyone has to understand they are promoting their new record. It was kind of lame that the crowd was filled with a lot of 16 year old, hormone raging, matt skiba loving girls, so putting that aside the crowd was awesome, lots of singing, some kids didn`t know the older songs, but for the most part it was a good atmosphere. The trio filled the room with energy, I think they were even a little baffled by the lack of crowd, but I don`t think that brought them down at all. They played great, I just wish it would have been a little longer. I think I`m done now, go see them if you haven`t already. Rock.
