Bitter
Part 2
She was brought back by the cold, enveloping her. Opening her eyes she could see whiteness all around her than a bloodied face over hers. "Sarah" Harm
breathed with relief. She noticed dimly that her arm was in a make shift sling. She opened her mouth to speak but instead was racked by coughs and
turned to see she'd spit up a mouth full of blood and it stained the white snow. "Oh god Mac" Harm was now kneeling beside her.
"I'm okay." She breathed
softly.
"No you're not." He contradicted and began unbuttoning the bottom of
her uniform blouse and exposing' dark bruises up and across her abdomen.
"Sweet Jesus Sarah." He said skimming the tips of his fingers up her belly feeling the broken ribs beneath her skin and she flinched in pain.
"Watch it flyboy" she hissed.
"Sorry." He whispered. "
"What about the ce-cell phones."
She asked bringing his gaze from her stomach to her eyes. Reaching back he pulled his phone from his pocket and showed her.
"No service."
"Well I guess we'd better start heading towards the last town we saw. I think 7 miles back." she suggested.
"No Mac you shouldn't move." He said. "Damn Harm what am I supposs to do wait for a helo to come get us? Nobody knows were out here you said so yourself. So we need to move, I'm a marine Harm and we can handle sleet, sun, rain and snow, just like a postman." She smiled and he helped her to her feet, slowly.
He pulled her body closer to her as the trudged through the snow. They were slightly warmer having gotten their jackets from the crushed car. But now
they were moving at a very slow pace as Mac valiantly trudged forward.
He watched her intently ignoring the pain in his side and neck; suddenly she pitched forward on her hands and knees coughing up blood. He fell with her
holding her up as she sputtered the blood from her mouth.
"Oh God" she groaned softly sitting back.
"Mac you okay." He asked stroking her back and
she nodded slowly. Looking up he searched the wood and fell on an abandoned shack.
"Mac you think you can make it over there?" he asked pointing to the shack.
"Yeah" she sighed as he helped her to her feet. And they slogged toward the shack.
