Slayers © 1995 Kanzaka Hajime - Araizumi Rui / Kadokawa Shoten Publishing Co., Ltd. - Marubeni Corporation - King Record Co., Ltd.
Released in North America by A.D.V. Films

Genre: fantasy(could be considered comedy) Length: 75 minutes (theatrical film) Audience Age: 7+

Opinion: Great writing, a cool art style, and very neurotic characters...so far so good.

This is a review of the dubbed VHS version.

This film was not created by the same crew as most of the other Slayer series.

If you go to your local/regional "Suncoast" video store, I am sure that you will notice the bottom two rows of the anime section's majority of VHS tapes are either Slayers or Tenchi Muyo! cassettes. For the first couple of years of collecting Japanimation, I actually avoided buying these titles since I would probably grab the wrong tape for someone who is unfamiliar with the series. Of course there must be some reason to justify one series having over ten video tapes, so to ensure I never miss out on a potentially great series, I will buy the series's tape that has the words "the movie" or "the motion picture" in its title. Since movies tend to have closed plots, I do not have to buy extra tapes if I want to find out how the story ends.

It seems like a typical day for our heroine; the small breasted, short statured, bad tempered (If you ever watch this title, this description is frequently repeated by most of the supporting cast) sorceress, Lina Inverse. At least it was normal until she meets up with her side kick; the black leather wearing bimbo of a sorceress, Naga the Serpent, to brutalize a bunch of bandits. From their victory, they obtain two discount passes to visit the hot springs of the mysterious Mipross Island. To their dismay, they find out that all the hot springs are artificial.

Using memories of his youth to plague Lina's dreams, a sorcerer explains that the evil demon Joyrok's brutal actions of the past are the reason for the fake spring and any other mysterious aspect of the island. So with the promise of a huge cash reward from the island's king, the two will attempt to defeat Joyrok, restore the island's hot springs, and set the past of the island the way it was meant to be.
