Mini Story: In the Attic

The moonlight glinted through the bed room window and illuminated around the room. Small creaks from the attic above the room echoes and small movement in the bed made a light rustle. It was only two-thirty in the morning… yet the person in the bed was still not asleep. They had been lying there for over six hours thinking what next. When the creaks continued, the person in the bed groaned and blamed the noises for being the reasons why they were still awake. Quietly, they pulled the bed covers off annoyed and stumbled through the dark room.

They flickered on the light and stood by the dresser, looking into the mirror. The person was a young boy around the ages of sixteen to eighteen with long curly red hair and many freckles decorating his face. His hair was messy and his shirt was wrinkled. This clearly was the sign of loosing a good night’s sleep. He grumbled and groaned as he opened the door and grabbed a flashlight off of his dresser, walking quietly in the hall way.

In his mind, he was cursing the rats in the attic and what other creatures had nested them selves into his parent’s house. He reached up searching for the draw string to lower the hidden door of the attic and gave off a satisfied smirk as he quickly found it and tightly grabbed it, yanking the door open from the ceiling. He turned his flashlight on and stepped up the attic stairs, climbing to find what the noise was. He pulled himself up to the attic floor and a light breeze flooded through the small dark room and the boy shuddered.

He shone his flashlight through the small attic and sighed walking toward the open window shivering slightly. That was when he noticed something strange. He tilted his head to the side in question and leaned out of the window into the cold night. He reached forward and grabbed the shredded doll his little sister owned years before.

“Alex…” A small voice whispered. Alex turned around startled and saw his little sister standing in her pink silky nightgown holding one of her stuffed animals. Alex smiled at his sister and walked over to her side.

“Meg… what are you doing out of bed…” He asked soothingly. Megan pointed to the back of the attic.

“She was calling me,” she said quietly, “She told me to come up here alone Alex. You better leave.”

Alex’s eyebrows narrowed in confusion and he looked into the dark corner of the attic, “Who are you talking about Meg?” He looked back at his sister and she frowned with displeasure.

“You better leave Alex… before she gets mad,” Megan whispered quietly. Ale shook his head and urned the flashlight back on.

“I want to see what you are talking about…” He said quietly and turned around lifting his flashlight.

Megan’s eyes widened and she shook her head, her ratted red hair swaying roughly, “Alex don’t!” She cried. But Alex lifed the flashlight and pointed it in the back corner. His eyes shot open as he saw a small child with long black hair crumpled in the back corner.

Her head shot up and her eyes narrowed into a glare towards Alex as he steadied the light on her, “Oh my… Megan… who is this?”

“I am the goddess of chaos…” the small girl’s raspy voice replied. She coughed roughly and stretched out of her ball in the corner, “I’ve come from the neither world for a body… a young girl’s body.” She whispered. She stood and her bones cracked loudly. Alex winced and stood in front of Megan.

“Well… you can’t have Megan!” Alex hollered. Megan made a small noise and Alex’s head shot around to her. The other child was holding Megan tightly to her and Megan trembled in her grasp.

“A-Alex…” Megan whimpered in fright.

“Shush,” The girl said quietly, “You’ll be fine… I promise…” She smirked and Alex frowned.

“Let her go…”

“Or you’ll do what?” The girl smirked more and tilted her head, her red eyes glowing at him. Her eyes flickered with excitement and enjoyment. Alex wanted to tackle her, and it took every last bit of his self-control not too.

He wanted to shout, “Or I’ll murder you with my bare hands!” But figured that the process of the girl harming his sister would just speed up, and she’d do it as easy as snapping her fingers. And Alex didn’t want THAT to happen anytime soon. He was going to find a way to save his sister and quickly. But how was the million dollar question.

“Alex… please, don’t let her get me… I don’t want to die!” Megan whimpered and Alex’s eyes shot wider in realization.

“Of course,” He thought, “Taking Megan’s body would kill her! Not my little sister!” Alex” gripped tightly to his flashlight in his hands and turned it on.

“LET HER GO!” He yelled and shone it in the evil girl’s eyes. She hissed and fell backward, suffering from temporarily blindness. Alex grabbed Megan and pulled her behind him before jumping on the small child.

The girl just smirked and clung to him, “This… was my plan!” She laughed and Alex struggled to get the child off of him, “I’m going to take your body instead… and no one can stop me!”

“Megan!” Alex cried. He looked back to see that Megan’s bangs were in her face, and her head was bowed, “Megan!” He cried once more and the girl raised her head. Alex gasped, discovering that the child was indeed not his sister…. It was the goddess of chaos… but how? Were there two?

“I can be in two places at once Alex… and y disguising myself wasn’t too hard when I had already taken your sister’s body a few nights ago…” Alex’s eyes shot wide more and tears welled in them.

“Megan…” He whispered and glared at the girl, “Why I!” He shouted wincing in pain. The girl just smirked and their bodies glowed.

“Why you nothing… because I’m already taking your body Alex… it’ll be mine only in a short time now…” Alex winced and indeed, the girl was sinking into his body. How long would it take to full complete? “Hopefully…” Alex thought praying, “I loose consciousness before I’m gone completely…” Alex closed his eyes wincing and gasped in pain as another few inches of the girl sink into his body.

But just as he prayed, he lost consciousness and fell back limp, as the goddess of chaos sunk into his body, forever separating his soul from it.
