BOOKLIST (Fiction) Dion Fortune wrote six occult novels. All are currently in print and readily available. The novels were written as a means of conveying magical symbolism direct to the subconscious mind. Dion Fortune herself wrote: "Those who read the novels without having studied the Qabalah will get hints and a stimulus to their subconscious. Those who study the Qabalah without reading the novels will get an interesting intellectual jigsaw puzzle to play with; but those who study the 'Mystical Qabalah' with the help of the novels get the keys of the Temple put into their hands." In addition to the novels listed below she wrote a number of non-fiction books about ritual magic and practical occultism. For those who want to buy books online, we have an arrangement with Amazon, the internet bookseller, in both the UK and the USA. Clicking on the Amazon logo beside each book description will take you directly to the relevant page on their website, from which you can order the book or look up the price and other information.

The Secrets of Dr Taverner
Crossing the threshold to other mysterious, unorthodox worlds, he employs esoteric techniques for diagnosis and cure. Based on real people, this collection of short stories presents Dion Fortune's teacher, Dr Moriarty, in the fictional guise of Dr Taverner, with herself cast in the role of Rhodes, his assistant. Taverner uses his abilities to cure the severely mentally disturbed by esoteric means. Using technical work on the inner planes he frees his patients from frustration, misery and worse fates. Rhodes, although just a student, becomes more and more engrossed in the work until one day he over-reaches himself, only just escaping a terrifying disaster. Each story highlights a psycho-esoteric aspect, including: vampirism,
astral journeying, karmic repercussions and demonic interference. This book can be ordered online. UK and Europe:
The Demon Lover
To try to protect her from the wrath of the Lodge, Lucas is immersed deeper and deeper into the darkness of the Underworld, ever struggling to free himself from many hells. This was Dion Fortune's first novel, based on real characters
and experiences. It offers many insights, not only into the inner
nature of the Mysteries and the dangers of Black Magic, but also
into the sacred nature of love. This book can be ordered online. UK and Europe:
The Winged Bull
The man whom Ursula Brangwyn loves becomes involved in Black Magic
and drags her after him. Her brother, a student of magical arts,
knows that the only way he can rescue her is to make her transfer
her affections to someone else. He chooses his man and sets to
work on his difficult task, making use of certain aspects of the
sexual relationship that are the carefully guarded secrets of
the initiates. The story shows the deliberate building of a curious
magnetic rapport between two people who do not attract each other.
A highly strung, highly cultured sophisticated girl and an unemployed
ex-officer, hard-bitten and disillusioned. The Goat Foot God
The Goat Foot God shows Dion Fortune's ability to touch the unconscious
with well-chosen words in place of equivocal images of classical
alchemy. The attitude of anyone fully absorbing the message latent
in the book will be subtly changed for the better by the experience.
The Sea Priestess"This book stands on its own as a literary Melchizedek." (Dion Fortune). This is a book with an undercurrent; on the surface a romance, underneath a thesis upon a theme: All women are Isis and Isis is all women. Further, it is an experiment in prose rhythms which beat upon the subconscious mind like the Eastern Mantra, which, because they are archaic, speak to the archaic level of the mind from which dreams arise. Wilfred Maxwell, a "wimp" by any standards, learns to assert himself,
his creativity and full masculinity under the tutelage of the
mysterious Vivien Le Fay Morgan. He has a dream vision at the
full moon of his patroness as the High Priestess of the Ancient
Moon cult who has returned to calm and control the sea. As his
inner strength develops he becomes her High Priest, celebrating
the magic of moon and sea on the wild coastal headlands of Somerset.
Moon Magic
Moon Magic was Dion Fortune's last novel, and was not quite complete at the time of her death. She allegedly wrote the last section posthumously, channelled via a medium. The novel contains many insights into the Mysteries of Isis.
