Rituals and Spells

The first of many dynamics is the magick circle...This is what a Wiccan will do to create a barrier from anything that might enter while they are caught between the worlds

Remember....always use caution...

Circle Casting

1.Remove all animals and small children from the area..also any furniture that you do not want to be inside your circle.

2.Set up your altar before you cast the circle.

3.Locate magnetic North with a compass and holding the wand out from your body, go into alpha and see the wand's aura extending out from it, especially at the tip.

4.Visualize the tip of the wand creating a circle of light and energy, like a laser, as you walk clockwise three times around the area. The circumference drawn by the wand's tip will be the edge of your circle. Project the white light out from the wand to create the circle as geometrically perfect and say to yourself that it is.

5.Walk the circle the second time around and say out loud:

"I cast this circle to protect me/us from all negative and positvie energies and forces on any level that may come to do me/us harm. I draw into this circle only energies and forces that are right for me and the most correct for my work."

6.Walk the circle the third time and say:

"I have created a sacred space. So mote it be!"

7.Invoke the four directions and energies of the elements, angels and powers that reside in them by using the athame, wand, sword, or index finger to draw an invoking pentagram as you face each direction. Use a ritual spell of invocation or one you wrote for yourself.

8.To open the circle, hold the wand out over the circumfrence of the circle and beginning at magnetic North, walk once around the circle counterclockwise as you say:

"I send this circle into the cosmos to do my bidding. the circle is undone but not broken."

This form of circle casting is adapted from Laurie Cabot. This is her version which might be differnt from your own. It is just an example of how to cast a circle.

To Identify Your True Friends

Perform during a full moon.

Assemble the following:

BASIL (against evil)
LEMON and PEA (friendship)
BAY (psychic ability)
CINNAMON (dreams)
HIBISCUS (divination)
DRAGON'S BLOOD (catalyst).

Place a potted PLANT on the altar (if you are doing this spell after having been betrayed in friendship, use an ALOE plant for healing). If you wish to divine the identity of your friends in a scry or other divination method such as tarot, also have an OBSIDIAN stone on the altar; if you prefer dream divination, use FLUORITE instead.

Cast the circle and raise the power. Light a BLUE (truth and friendship) candle. Grind the herbs together; as you do so, imagine their power flowing through your arm into your body. Release the power into the stone you are using. Once you have charged the stone, sacrifice the herbs to the elements by throwing some into the wind smudging (burning) some in your cauldron, mixing some with water and pouring it away, and finally burying the rest in your potted plant. Then if you used the obsidian, scry in its surface or have it with you as you perform some other divination. If you used the fluorine, wear it to bed that night and you will dream about your friends. Remember to record your dream so you can contemplate it more fully!

Once your magickal workings are complete, bind the spell, earth the power and uncast the circle...

Love,Spellwork and the Rede

The Spell:

Moon phase: Waxing to full

You will need:

Jasmine Incense or Jasmine Essential Oil
Three stones: Rose Quartz, Garnet. Carnelian
Candles: 1 red candle, a few beeswax candles (or whatever you have about your home)

In you bedroom, open your curtains. If it's warm enough, open your windows and let the moonshine and breezes in.

Light some candles around your bedroom and make yourself comfortable on your bed, placing the unlit red candle on your bedside table. Hold the stones in your power hand (the one you write with). Visualize yourself in love; your life enhanced with love, both given and received.
What type of partner do you want to share your days with? What type of relationship do you wish to have? Don't focus on who you want, rather what you want. Honesty, trust, respect, love. Casting a spell to make someone love you is wrong. It isn't fair, it violates the Wiccan Rede, and it always backfires.

Visualizing yourself with love in your life is a wonderful thing. Sharing your life with someone special is something all of us have in common. Actively taking part in its manifestation helps us to be open to the possibility of such love.

Charge the three stones with the emotions you generate and your wish to attract love into your life. Set the stones around your red candle. Light your candle and let it burn all the way down. As the candle slowly burns, the energy you charged the stones with is slowly released. Give thanks and close the rite.

Wishing Powder

You will need:

* Wishing Powder
* The Great Outdoors (This could be your back yard, a park, or forest -- any place where the wishing powder will land on the earth when you release it).
* Anything else you feel you need to personalize your wish.

You will need to craft the wishing powder ahead of time. You can either do this at home in a Circle or, if you don't mind taking your mortal and pestal along with you, you can make it outside where you plan to use it. (This isn't too hard to do if you're staying in your own backyard). I used the recipe for Wishing Powder found in Scott Cunningham's book, "The Complete Book of Incense, Oils, and Brews."

2 parts sage
1 part sandlewood
1 part tonka beans (smells great!)

Grind, mix, and empower.

If you're feeling adventurous, customize your wishing powder to the wish you'll be making. (Example: Crushed rose petals for bringing love into your life).

Find a spot to make our wishes from. Take a handful of the wishing powder and begin concentrating on your wishes. (Please do not put yourself in danger to make a wish. A wish is just as powerful whether it's made standing on a rock on the side of a steep hill or standing in a field). Put your energy and wish into the powder you are holding. When it feels like you can no longer hold the energy, let it fly. As the powder settles to the ground, visualize your wishes joining with the Earth, gaining power and strength.

As always, remember the Rule of Three when making your wish. After putting the energy out there, it's impossible to call it back. Remember the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for, you may get it."

**Many of you have inquired about where to get Tonka Beans (as needed for the above whishing spell). You can do an easy seach for them through any search engine to find out where to get them. One place I located was at J.Crows. Also here is an informative page on what a Tonka Bean is. I hope these two pages help out a little bit. You might be able to ask at your local health food store or Craft shop to see if they carry them also.**

To Maintain Unconditional Love

Z Budapest, Grandmother Moon

Every Full Moon light a white (blessing) and a pink (happiness) and black candle in gratitude to the Fates. View the Moon before you light them, then say:

"The kind Fates have blessed my home,
The kind Fates have blessed my heart,
The kind Fates have blesed my loved ones,
I offer thanks with a humble heart.
I thank the Goddess for my life,
I thank the Goddess for my love.
I thank the Goddess for continued blessings already on their way.
Blessed be."

Also burn some high-quality incense, the best you have. Do this each month to make your good fortune last.

Protection Spells

"The Witch's Bottle"

It is possible for the nicest person the have enemies. Some people may be jealous of you; misunderstand you; just dislike the way you do your hair! Many people have said, "I don't need protection. I don't have any enemies." But there are the above-type "enemies" that you wouldn't even know about. They may well be as sweet as pie to you, to your face, but be bitterly jealous, or whatever it may be, behind your back. How do you protect yourself against their negativity? How to you protect yourself against a warped individual who decides to work magick against you? You don't want to hurt them, but you certainly want to protect yourself.

The best way to deal with this is a "Witch's Bottle". This is an ancient defense, known throughout folklore. It is made on an individual basis. The idea is to protect yourself and at the same time, send back whatever is being sent at you. You should never be the originator of harm, nor seek revenge, but you can protect yourself.

To make a Witch's Bottle, take a regular jar such as a 6 oz instant-coffee jar. Half fill it with sharp objects such as broken glass, old razor blades, rusty nails and screws, pins, needles, etc. When the jar is half-filled with these objects, urinate in it to fill it. If a woman is preparing her bottle, she might also want to get some menstrual blood into it. Now put the top on the jar and seal it with tape. It should then be buried in the ground, at least twelve inches deep, in an isolated spot where it can remain undisturbed. If you live in a city, then it will be worth a trip out of town to find some remote spot to bury it.
So long as the bottle remains buried and unbroken, it will protect you from any evil directed against you. This applies whether the evil is directed by an individual or a group of people. Not only will it protect you, but it will reflect back that evil on the sender(s). So the more he/she tries to harm you, the more he/she will be harmed her/himself.

Such a bottle should last almost indefinitely, but to be on the safe side, I'd recommend redoing the ritual one a year. With the present rate of housing development you never know when your bottle may be dug up or inadvertently smashed.

Binding Spells

Courtesy of Ray Buckland)

This should be used to prevent someone from giving away a secret. It is again a form of sympathetic magick. A clay or wax figure may be used, or a clothe poppet (voodoo doll). In the ritual it is named for the person whom it represents. Then, withappropriate word, the Witch takes a needle threaded with a twenty-one inch length of red silk, and sews up the mouth of the figure. She finishes off by winding the thread all around the body of the figure. The concentration is on the fact that the person is unable to speak on the forbidden subject - whatever the secret may be that is being safeguarded. At the end of the ritual the poppet is stored away in a safe place, wrapped in a piece of white cloth. So long as the thread remains in place, the person represented is bound.

A Spell To Forget About Lost Love

As all things must surely have to end, and things must be left behind in the past, it's best that we remember to carry our good feelings and happy times with us, and to discard the remnants of things that need be left alone. This spell is one of my very own and it works well to be rid of the pain that breaking up with someone you love tends to bring forth. All you need is a picture of your ex-boyfriend (or ex-girlfriend), a lighter (I prefer a blow-torch, but matches may be supplemented), a heat safe container, a bittersweet root and a red ouanga bag (gris gris, hoodoo, yada yada...).

I find that casting this spell on the night of a waning moon or new moon is best, when it's dark is always more peaceful, and you won't be disturbed. Place the picture of your ex in the heat safe container and light it on fire, as it burns down to ashes, meditate on your hurt and suffering leaving you while it turns to ashes and dust, chant the following with conviction:

"As you leave my life,
I leave behind my pain.
As you burn to dust,
So does all my hurt.
As I leave you in my past,
I leave with you my sorrow."

Repeat this chant until his/her picture is reduced to ashes. You may now throw these ashes as far from your house as possible, or bury them in a remote location with your pain and bad memories of the breakup. Before you go to sleep for the night, take to bittersweet root and touch it to your forhead (third eye position -thousand leafed lotus), it's always best to have let out all your emotions earlyer while doing the burning, but if you feel you need to cry or scream and let out those last bits of remorse, feel free to do so now. Let the root soak up all your bad energies, then wrap it in the red cloth or put it in the sack, tying it with three knots, and then place it under your pillow or under your mattress near your head. Sleep with it there until your ex is a piece of your dead past, and they no longer affect you as an individual.

Keep Beauty From Fading

When all your face appears most fair,
When comets and meteors gild your hair,
And in your eyes the moon and sun
Contest, surrender, and burn as one,
When ivory Venus smoothes your brow,
And Mars recurves your lips' red bow,
Make haste to utter this binding verse
And hold the stars on their kindest course:
Figures of fire
That shift and change,
Planets that move
By heaven's hinge,
Be signed and fixed
Forever here,
And close my image
Within thy sphere.
Measure a yard of golden string,
Loose from your fingers let it swing,
Then tie it in thirteen sturdy knots --
Hide it among your scents and pots.
