Chapter Six

(Thursday)

Whitney reached across the bed, and immediately woke up when she didn't feel Jc laying next to her. Her eyes adjusted to the lighting in the room, and she looked around. He wasn't there.

Since it was their anniversary, she wanted to spend every moment with him that she could. The guys would be leaving to go on tour soon, and every moment spent would have to help them make it through until they could be together again. Whitney hopped out of bed, and grabbed her robe. She tied it tightly around her, and wandered downstairs, where she saw a note on the table. She couldn't help but smile at how secretive, but sweet the note was.

Dear Shorty:

I bet you are wondering where I am right now, and believe me its killing me being away from you. But, you'll thank me in the end. This is your first clue, and it will take you to your next one. Read carefully, and I'll see you later on. To be near you is like a dream, a heavenly vision from up above. If you're hungry, reach for a can of whip cream. Talk to you shortly, love you Jc

She laughed, and walked over to the cabinet. She found the can of whip cream, and attached to it was another note.

Well that one was easy, but trust me they get harder. Make it quick, make it sweet, stop in for a nice lovely treat. Your next clue is waiting on you at the Sweet Booth Ice Cream Parlor. JC.

She smiled, and layed the piece of paper down. She wanted to know what he was up to, but he knew that the only person that would know about his plan would be Justin. She picked up the phone, and dialed his number. She smiled when she heard his groggy voice float over the line.

"Hello."

"Justin, it's me."

He groaned. "Shorty, you have really bad timing if you know what I mean."

She smiled evily, even though he couldn't see her. "Well, you can pick up where you left off in a second. Do you know what the hell Jc is up to right now? He's leaving me all these clues..and I know you have to know something about it."

He laughed. "You interrupted me just to ask me something you know I'm not going to tell you? Really, Whit, we've been friends a long time. You should know that I'm going to keep my secret. Just do what he says. You'll like the prize that you find."

She groaned. "I hate you, you know that right?"

"Yeah, whatever. Now, get ready, and enjoy your day. I'll see ya tomorrow. Bye," he said, not waiting for a reply and hanging up.

Whitney laughed. She headed upstairs, and hurriedly took a shower and got ready. In no time she was ready to leave. She grabbed the keys to her car, and drove off with her sights set on the ice cream parlor.

This place had a special memory to her. When they had first went out, Jc had taken her here to get an ice cream cone. It's where she had really gotten to know him. She knew where the clue would be...in "their" booth that they had sat at.

She reached the parlor in no time, and walked briskly through the door. Her eyes set on the corner booth, and she smiled when she saw a rose on the table with a note taped to it. She felt the stares of people that were in there, but she ignored them, and picked up the rose along with the note.

I know you remember this place just like I do. Now, for your third clue. A splish, a splash, no you're not taking a bath :) its a little harder, so I hope you can figure it out. Love you, Jc.

Her eyes scrunched up. What the crap did that mean? It repeated itself over and over in her mind, and that's when it clicked.

The clue was leading her to a fountain that they had first kissed at. It wasn't anything special to most people, but to her and Jc it was a place where their lips had first touched. She'd never forget that night, or how nervous she had been...

"JC, where are we going?" she asked, as her nerves stood on end. It was their third date, and for some reason, all night she had been jumpy. She didn't know why, but she knew something was about to happen. The feelings in her were too strange to ignore.

He smiled, and continued on his way. "You'll see when we get there. It's not that far from here."

She groaned, and crossed her arms over her chest. They had been riding in his car for the past twenty minutes, and she was becoming fidgety. Her fingers started taping, and she knew JC saw it. His hand reached over, and pulled hers over so that it lay with his on the gear shifter.

Her eyes had widened at the action, considering the sparks that had flew through her hand. He must have felt them too, because his eyes had turned to look at her. Their eyes locked, and he smiled. Nothing was said, and his head turned back around to study the road.

She was still recovering from the shock of that moment, to noticed that they had reached their destination. He squeezed her hand gently, bringing her out of her daze. "Are you alright?"

She nodded her head, and opened the door to get out. He also stepped out, and walked over to stand beside her.

He laughed at her confused face. "Jc, why are we at the city fountain? Um..don't take this the wrong way, but umm..well it's just strange."

"Shh, just follow me," he said, taking her hand. The tingling sensation returned, and she closed her eyes, allowing herself to be pulled. When she opened them, her breath caught in her throat.

In front of the fountain was a blanket laid out, with two white candles burning. Her eyes naturally filled up with tears, and she didn't know what to say. "Jc..I um..well..."

His finger brushed her lips gently. "Shh, don't say anything." He took her hand, and they sat down on the blanket together. Nothing was said. Nothing needed to be said. The atmosphere surrounding them said it all.

He started humming softly, and she turned to look at him. His eyes were closed, and he looked so peaceful and perfect, that her heart fluttered.

He must have sensed her looking at him, cause his eyes slowly opened to lock onto hers. His head moved upwards, and hers moved down to meet his. When their lips finally touched, it was soft and hesitant.

Her world exploded. Never had she felt the power in a kiss, as she was feeling right now. His lips were soft and gentle. They closed over hers for a few more seconds before he pulled away to look at her.

Her eyes were still closed, and he smiled. There was something definately there, and he couldn't wait to see what developed from it.

Whitney smiled as she recalled the memory. It had been so sweet and magical, that it sounded like it had came from a romance novel. In a way, it had. It had came from the novel of him and her. He had never seemed to let her down, and she knew that he wouldn't be doing it any time soon.

She reached the city fountain, and slowly walked out. She was in no hurry. She let the memories float through her again. Her eyes landed on a yellow rose, laying in front of the fountain. She smiled, and bent down to pick it up.

I know you can't forget this place, and neither can I. Here is where you captured my heart, and forever it will belong to you. Your next clue..you've known him longer than me. He hid your clue under a tree. Love you, Jc

Her smile never left her lips as she walked back to her car. She started it up, and headed for the one guy that knew her better than Jc.

"Listen, Justin..she'll be here any minute, and well I want to see her face for this. You can't let her know that I'm here," Jc told Justin, as he finished leaving her the clue.

"Chill man, I've got it covered. All you have to do is sit back and watch the master work his magic."

Jc snickered. "I think I'm worried now.." he said, as he saw her car approaching through the window of Justin's house. "Here she comes..Justin remember," he said, as he took his hiding place.

Justin watched as she walked out of the car, and walked through his door without knocking. He smiled as he watched her walk to the fake tree that was in his living room, and pick up the clue.

He almost laughed at the way her eyes lite up when she read the note. "Nice to see you too, Shorty."

She looked up, and acknoledged him for the first time. "Oh, hi Justin.....oh and Jc I know you're here, and you won't let me see you, but I'm really getting tired of following these clues. I hope its almost over."

Justin turned away so he wouldn't loose it. "Jc's not here....he dropped that off earlier today and I haven't seen him sense. You mean to tell me that you haven't seen him once today?"

She raised her eyebrows questionly. "Well, umm this morning..and heh, I can tell you details of what we were doing if you like.."

He held up his hands. "Please spare me..so what does the clue say?"

She looked at it and grinned. "It says that he can't wait to screw me madly tonight.."

Justin snickered. "You guys do that EVERY night."

She stuck her tongue out at him and continued. "No really...it says that my next clue is waiting at Denise's and that it will take me to my "final" destination...whatever that may be."

Justin knew exactly what it was. "Well, you better get going..."

She held up her hands. "I'm not finished. It also says that I have to search you to find an important item. Now we can do this the easy way and you can give it to me, or I'll search for it. Just hurry, cause I don't have all day."

Justin looked at her dumbly. He really didn't know what she was talking about. Jc hadn't told him that he would be searched for anything, and he didn't know that anything was on him. "Umm..well I don't have anything to give you."

Jc watched with pure joy from his spot. He hadn't told Justin about the present he had left on him, knowing that Justin would have just handed it over, without making it fun. If only he was a little closer, it would be perfect, but he couldn't ruin this "game" yet.

"Come on, Justin. I really wanna go see where all this is leading me...now quit being difficult."

He grabbed her shoulders. "Whit, I'm telling you that I don't have anything on me right now."

She sighed. "Ok, you had to do this the hard way.." she said, as her hands felt around his shirt. When she found nothing there, she pulled back to look at him. "Justin, I'm telling you..you may find this cute, but I really don't wanna search your pants..so just hand it over now."

Justin sighed. "I REALLY don't have anything. And, heh, you better not even touch my pants."

Whitney sighed and stepped back towards him. He tried to move back, but she held him in place. Her hands felt around in his front pockets, and found nothing. They slid around to his back pockets, and found what they were looking for.

If it had been another guy, Jc wouldn't be allowing this to happen. But, since it was Justin , he trusted the two completely. He watched her eyes light up, as she pulled out the necklace that he had bought her.

It was a simple gold chain, with a diamond pendant shapped in a small J&W. Her eyes watered, and she looked at Justin. "Wow," was all she could manage.

Jc wanted to laugh so bad at the look on Justin's face at that moment. "How..how did that get in my pocket?"

"Drop the act, Timberlake. It's not cute anymore."

"But, Shorty, I really didn't put that in there...ohh I know who did it...Denise."

Whitney hugged him quickly, and gathered her stuff to walk out the door. "I'll ..I'll see you later Justin."

The door slammed, and they both watched as her car drove off. Jc walked out of his hiding place, and patted Justin on the back. "Thank you."

Justin's eyes narrowed. "Why didn't you tell me about the last part?"

Jc laughed, and picked up his keys. "And miss that show that I just witnessed? Hell, that was so funny..I couldn't tell you."

Justin just shrugged, and watched his friend walk out the door. He had to smile. It was a clever plan, and he had to be honest. He had liked the feel of Whitney's hands feeling around on him. He knew it was wrong, but he couldn't push the thoughts out of his mind. He had to ignore them, for all of their sakes.

"Denise, do you have my other and final clue?"

Denise laughed. "How long have you been on this scavenger hunt?"

She sighed. "Since early this morning."

Denise laughed, and smiled. "It sounds really sweet."

"It is."

"Oh yeah,..the clue. Well its not really a clue. I'm suppose to tell you to take a bath here, there is an outfit for you to wear up there, and then you're suppose to head home."

Whitney smiled. "He's up to something, and ohh baby can I not wait to find out what."

About an hour later, she was ready to go. The dress that Jc had picked out was long and a dark green. It was strapless, and fell to the floor. He had matching shoes, and she had chosen to wear her hair down and wavy. Her make up was light, and she had a certain glow about her.

Denise smiled, and almost wished that it was Justin and her doing this, not them. But, she was happy for Whitney. She had come to see that she wasn't a threat.

"That's a really pretty dress. Jc went all out."

"This is just so dream like. Is there anything else I should know?"

"Oh, you aren't driving. Leave your car here, and there's suppose to be someone waiting for you out there."

"Jc," she said hopefully.

Denise shook her head. "I doubt that. He's probably getting ready himself. You've waited this long, I'm sure you can wait a little longer. You're almost there."

Whitney smiled, and gathered her stuff. When she stepped out the door, she saw a white limo waiting for her. She smiled. He knew how to treat a girl, and she was just lucky that she was the girl being treated. She stepped in, and sat down. The screen was up, so she couldn't see the driver. She jumped when the t.v. came on, and his face appeared on the screen.

"Well, you're almost there. I bet you're looking lovely right now, and I can't wait to see you."

Whitney smiled. She watched his lips as he spoke. "I hope you're not too tired from your journey today, but you have to admit, it was kinda fun going down memory lane. I wanted this to be special, and even though I haven't physically been there with you, I know I've been there mentally."

She nodded her head, as she felt the car come to a stop. "Well, you're hear now, and all you have to do is walk into your basement. I'll be there waiting, and the second half of the night will begin." The t.v. screen clicked off, and her door was opened. Her heart beat increased, and she stepped out, looking at her house nervously.

She didn't know why she felt like this, but she couldn't help it. She felt like it was their first date. She stepped towards the door, and opened the door. Whatever was waiting for her, she was about to find out.
