Chapter 3
"AJ, wheres your Smash Mouth CD?" yelled Lydia up the stairs.
"With all my other CD's down by my stereo," yelled AJ down the stairs. "Why do you want it anyway?"
"Duh, so I can listen to it on the plane! Gees, I didn't think you were that stupid," said Lydia going over to AJ's stereo and looking through his CD's for about the third time.
"I'm not stupid, just mentaly challenged," said AJ smiling as he came down the stairs.
"I rest my case," said Lydia laughing. "So where is it? I can't find it!"
"Right in here," said AJ opening up the stereo and pulling out the CD.
"And you said it was with all your other CD's. Ha!" said Lydia trying to find the case.
"So, are we ready yet?" asked AJ putting his suitcase by the door.
"Maybe. Depends if I can find anything else to so call "borrow and never return"," said Lydia smiling as she got her coat, and a bag of candy from AJ's kitchen.
"Figures," said AJ as they walked out the door and got in the shuttle bus.
"Hmm AJ. I wonder if there will be fans on the plane?" said Lydia smiling.
"I sure hope not," said AJ as he sat down and leaned back. He closed his eyes, then opened them again. "You brought my 3 Doors Down CD right?"
"Like I would forget that?" asked Lydia.
"True..." said AJ. Then AJ said sarcastically, "What would you ever do if you didn't have that CD?"
"Shut up, just shut up," said Lydia slapping him acrossed the head.
Just one week ago, Lydia had gotten a call from her father wanting her to come down and visit him. He had said that he had divoriced her mother, and that he really wanted her to come and visit him. He also said that she could bring a friend, and Lydia immedently thought of AJ. So now here they were, on they're way from California, to Michigan, to visit someone Lydia did not grow up to know.
"Tell me again what we're doing here in Michigan, in the middle of winter when we could be on the beaches of California," said AJ as they stepped outside to wait for a taxi.
"We're here to visit my father, remember?" asked Lydia as a taxi pulled up.
"Oh yeah, that's right. But why did he call in the middle of winter?" asked AJ as they got in the taxi.
As Lydia looked at her friend that was shivering next to her she said, "You've never been any place cold like this have you?" asked Lydia.
"Nope. And I still think your crazy when you can walk outside with a tank top and shorts on when it's like 60 degrees," said AJ as he shivered again just thinking about it.
"AJ, once you live in an ice box like this, you get used to weather like this, and 50, or 60 degrees is warm," said Lydia.
"Your still crazy," said AJ.
"Not as crazy as you!" said Lydia.
"Not this again," said AJ shaking his head as Lydia started laughing.
"Hey look, we're here!" said Lydia as she got out of the car and pulled AJ out with her.
"Oh yay. We get to get out of the nice warm taxi, into the freezing, cold air," said AJ.
"Shut up! The weather is fine, you've just lived in California too long," said Lydia as they got out their suitcases out of the trunk and went up the stairs to the house.
"Here we go!" said Lydia as she knocked on her fathers door.
A little girl came to the door, then ran away yelling, "Daddy, Daddy! Someone's here!"
As Lydia and AJ stood in the doorway wondering if they should go in, Lydia's dad came into the hall.
"Lydia? Lydia I'm so happy to see you!" said her dad coming up to her and hugging her. After awhile, they pulled away and stood and looked at each other. "It's been too long."
"Yeah, it has," said Lydia as she looked back at AJ. "Oh um, this is my friend AJ. AJ, my dad."
"Hi, Lydia's dad....." started AJ as he shook hands with him.
"Tim, please call me Tim. It's nice to meet you AJ," said Tim. "Well, why don't I show you two to your rooms.
"Yeah, OK," said Lydia as they followed Tim upstairs.
"Here's your room. It's only one room, but two beds. I hope that's OK," said Tim as AJ and Lydia set their things down.
"Yeah dad, this will be fine. Thanks," said Lydia.
"I'll leave you alone so you can put your stuff away," said Tim as he walked out the door.
"OK, see ya!" yelled Lydia as her dad went down the stairs.
"Ewww, I have to share a room with you! That's gross!" said AJ laughing as Lydia threw pillow at him.
