July 18-19, 2002
Bessie, you may not know, is a political guru. She watches CNN, CNBC, C-Span, and the Food Network just about all day long. (Yea, she's a food guru too.) Anyhow, she has been clamoring for years to go to Washington D.C. Finally we relented and Bessie's dream became reality. For two days straight we did a ton of walking - taking her little cow hide all over the city. First the White House, then the Capitol, the Washington Monument, Vietnam Memorial, and Lincoln Memorial. It was the middle of summer and the heat was stifling. But somehow Bessie persisted, occasionally grazing on what little grass was left in the city. With all the security around, we thought there might be some trouble, what with us toting a cow around and all, but she made it through all the x-rays and strip searches without any problem. Bessie was sad we couldn't take her to the brand new International Spy Museum since she has always wanted to be a spy (unfortunately, there is not much of a need for spy cows) but we found we were one day too early. The museum's grand opening was on our last day and the wait was hours to get inside. Maybe next time. Until then, she will have to be satisfied with the 300 other things we did during our two day stay.

Since there were more pictures than usual, we have provided the thumbnails on this page.
If you click on the thumbnail it will pull up a larger image.
