Niagara Falls

July 1, 2001
Bessie has always had a slight aversion to danger. So when she learned that she would be visiting Niagara Falls the truth is, it freaked her out a little. She had read the all the books and knew every detail of the 15 individuals who have gone over the falls since 1901 - five of whom died. Bessie's first view of the falls was from the Canadian side looking out towards the horseshoe falls. It was a windy day and she was a little afraid of falling in. After all, a 190 foot drop into rocks is not much fun. Next, we took a ride on the Maid of the Mist boat tour, which brings you right into the excitement below. The second picture is of Bessie looking out of the boat at the American Falls. After our tour, we decided to walk over the bridge to the American side. In the next picture, Bessie was admiring the view from the bridge. Here you can see the gorge that was created over the past 12,000 years. The falls currently sit 7 miles from their original location and currently receed approximately 1 foot every 10 years. In this picture you can also see the hotels and towers that represent the vast commercialism on the Canadian side of the falls. Finally in the last picture you can see we made it to the edge of the falls on the American side where Bessie got sprayed by a litte mist!
