August 28, 2000 Bessie was very excited to be visiting California for the first time, and it was difficult to squeeze everything into one week! The first big adventure brought her down to San Diego. The first photograph was taken along the Ortega Highway, which twists and turns through the Santa Ana Mountains in the Cleveland National Forest. Finally we made it to the San Diego Wild Animal Park. People mistook Bessie for one of the animals and kept throwing food at her. Then some park employee tried to give her a shot! We got out of there pretty fast. Next it was on to downtown San Diego, where we took a stroll through the historic Old Town district. Finally, the last stop was in the Gaslamp Quarter, where many very trendy restaurants reside. Bessie, however, insisted on a cheesburger from the Hard Rock Cafe. We kinda suspect she's a little nuts.
