My husband, Gene and I, were married in 1969 and shortly thereafter...moved to Colorado. We met our first Aussies during the early 1970's, at various horse shows and immediately, fell in LOVE with the breed! And they sure fit into our horse and livestock lifestyle! Since that time, we have always had at least one in our home and at present, live with numerous Aussies...and occasionally, breed a "naturally reared" Raw Fed Aussie litter!
In the early 90's, we joined the Colorado Australian Shepherd Assn. and got involved with the club and I started to obedience trial. I have been the Membership Chairman for many years, and a former Secretary, Vice President and have served on the Board of Directors. Gene has worked at the shows/trials and I have also assisted with ring stewarding and general setups/cleanups.
Approximately 10 years ago, I decided to start the AussieArt in-home business and "tie" my love of Australian Shepherds, computers and "some" artistic talent together. It's been FUN! In the past, I have exhibited my horse, landscape and seascape artwork at some local Colorado art shows and previous to that, at some upstate New York exhibits.
Ten years ago, after having a beloved Aussie diagnosed with cancer, I researched into the health benefits of feeding a superior diet to our dogs...called RAW! I started feeding this way, using the BARF diet, which stands for Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods. This diet contained raw meats, raw meaty bones, offal (liver, kidney, spleens) and some ground up veggies/ripe fruits. I used this diet for approximately 5 years, switching to a Prey Model Raw Diet which has improved the health and vitality of my Aussies...even more! This has been the best decision we EVER made...the dogs are glowing, their energy levels are high, CLEAN teeth and breath, and hardly ANY body odor. I'm always getting compliments on the appearance of my dogs, while in-town, polishing for obedience trials!
Unfortunately, I lost my hubby, Gene, to Prostate Cancer, Nov. 1st, 2006...after 7 months of intensive in-home care. We would have been married for 38 years in March 2007. I was very fortunate to have such a great & supportive husband, who also was an animal lover all his life. I will miss him forever...
