182nd Fighter Squadron
This page is still in the works and will be until I complete the 111th FS page. Please bear with me, it won't be finished until mid January 2002 at the earliest.
(1) An F-51D (45-11457) with the 182nd
in the 1950s. The band on the tail is red with a white Texas shape.
When the movie "Battle Hymn" was made in the 1950s, the 182nd provided
the aircraft that were the stars. Actually stand ins for ROKAF F-51s.
(182nd FS)
(2) A restored F-51 N51MR (44-73163)
painted to look like 44-73656. While the aircraft above has a natural
metal finish this one is painted in a silver lacquer. The F-4C in
the background (63-7471) is still in the SEA scheme with white lettering.
When the scheme changed to the "wrap around" SEA scheme with black lettering,
the 182nd would add "SA" tail codes. (182nd FS)
(3) The 182nd operated "Sabre Dogs" and
F-86Ls during the late '50s. Here are F-86Ls 53-0667, 53-0993
and 53-0890 in formation over Texas. The red band on the tail contains
the Eagle from the squadron badge. The lighter areas on the nose
and tail are dayglo. (182nd FS)
(4) The same three aircraft joined by
53-0961. (182nd FS)
(5) The F-86s gave way to F-102s and
then F-84Fs. F-100s came along in 1970 and stayed until 1979.
Here is F-100D 56-2912 at MASDC in 1979. The red band on the tail
now contains only the word TEXAS in a western style font.
(6) F-100D 56-2974 on take off from
Kelly AFB. (182nd FS)
The F-102s, F-84s, F-4s and F-16s
will be added later.
