Ask The Pro 2. It's Good For Your Game - TONE DOWN THE TOE DANCE 3. BETTER BODY, BETTER GOLF - YOUR HAMSTRINGS Q: I have a problem with tending to hook the ball off the tee box after several holes. My friends tell me that my club face is shut. What can I do to practice a perfect path for the club? -- Art D., from the Web A: Click here for the answer hook ball club face shut IT'S GOOD FOR YOUR GAME TONE DOWN THE TOE DANCE Lifting your front heel off the ground during the downswing, is not an action the general golfing public should copy. Elevating the heel shoves your weight suddenly to your toes, throws your whole body out of balance, and usually results in an off-center hit with the loss of both distance and accuracy. (You can read more about this in my book, "The LAWs of the Golf Swing," which shows you how to match your swing to your body type.) This toe dance is especially prevalent with juniors and women whose hamstring muscles, the muscles behind the thigh supporting the knee, are not as strong as their quadriceps muscles in the front of the thigh. Therefore, they rely more on the stronger quadriceps to stabilize the knees during the downswing. ------------------------------------------------------------ GEORGE CARLIN AT CARNEGIE HALL NOW ON DVD Easily His Best Stand-Up Performance To Date Taped before a sold-out house at New York City's Carnegie Hall, the performance represents a creative resurgence for Carlin, following a heart attack earlier that year. The hamstrings are an important set of muscles when it comes to making your best swing. These are the large muscles in the back of the thigh that help connect the legs to the pelvis. Many golfers, especially men, have tight hamstrings that limit motion of the pelvis, making cor- rect hip rotation impossible. This restriction causes strain in other muscles of the lower back, contributing to the pain- ful "golfer's back" syndrome. One of the best exercises to keep your hamstrings in shape is as follows: Lie on your back in a doorway and extend your leg as straight as you can get it against the wall while the other leg is flat on the floor. Both knees should be straight and your butt against the wall. At first you may have to bend one or both of your knees to get into the position. But after a week or two your flexibility will improve enough that your knees can be fully extended, so be patient and don't force anything. Hold the position for a minute, then switch legs. Repeat at least three times for each leg. As always, consult your doctor or physiotherapist before doing these exercises to make sure they are right for you. -- T.J. Tomasi After a week or two of exercises, your flexibility will improve enough that your knees can be fully extended. |

Teeing Off - SINGH ENDS ON HIGH NOTE 2. Pro Report - 2004 Results 3. Quote Of The Week TEEING OFF SINGH ENDS ON HIGH NOTE Vijay Singh did not let the last hours of the 2004 PGA Tour trickle away without leaving a reminder just whose year this was. Ripping off a final-round 5-under 65, Singh jumped from 16th to ninth place at the Tour Championship, giving him 18 top-10 finishes in 29 events. That made for 36 top-10 show- ings in two years, the most since Tom Kite's reign of 36 in 1981-82. With a $180,000 check, his final winnings of $10,905,166 shattered Tiger Woods' four-year-old mark of $9,188,321. His nine victories were the most in one season since 1950, when Sam Snead won 11. "It would have been nice to get 10 wins, but I'll take nine," Singh said. "You don't look at it that way. Ten wins is a dream year. It hasn't happened in some 50 years." He finishes the year leading the Tour in birdies (484, second-most in history) and 64 rounds in the 60s. He also tied Geoff Ogilvy for the most eagles (17). "Everybody looks up at me and congratulates me every- where I go. That's a big surprise," he said. "There's a lot more people with their eyes on me than before. As for winning so many times, they want to see good golf and they come and watch me. So that makes me happy." Vijay Singh finished the year with 484 birdies, second-most in history. He won $10,905,166 on the season. ------------------------------------------------------------ FULL SIZE (3' x 5') AMERICAN FLAG Normal Price: $19.99 LIQUIDATION SPECIAL: $2.99 We are pleased to announce that we have found Full-Size 3'x5' American flags available at liquidation prices... never sold before at these low prices.
