Chp 7
The next morning Kat awoke feeling surprisingly peaceful. She remembered last night and smiled to herself. She got dressed and went downstairs to meet Rae as usual.
“We’ll you’re looking like a ray of sunshine this morning” Rae beamed at Kat.
“You look extremely happy too…..except for the bags under your eyes.”
“I had a late night. Very little sleep.” Rae grinned wickedly. “What’s your excuse?”
“Um, don’t really have one…….” Kat muttered smiling, not sure how to tell Rae. All of a sudden, Howie popped out of nowhere.
“Good morning Kat, Rae.” Howie came and stood by them. “Kat, can I Talk to you for a moment?” He tugged her to the side.
“Do you want to go out to dinner tonight? We don’t have a concert. And I’ll take you wherever you want.” Howie said smiling.
“You mean like a date?” Kat grinned.
“Yah, and I think it should be a fancy date, so I hope you brought a dress”
“Ok, sounds great.” Kat smiled, something she couldn’t prevent doing.
“Great. The guys and I have publicity but I’ll come get you at your room at 7, ok?” Kat smiled and nodded. Howie kissed her forehead softly.
“I’ll see you later then sweetie.” And with that Howie left to join the guys.
“What’s this all about? Are you going on a date?” Rae asked slightly astonished.
“Oh, Rae, you don’t know what’s going on, do you?” Kat asked smiling. Rae stood with a blank look on her face.
“Ok, I’ll explain as we shop. I have to buy a new dress.” Rae agreed, looking confused still., but came along anyway. Kat filled her in on the past few months; Jose, how Howie is always there for her, and then falling for Howie. She told her about the kiss last night.
“So, you guys did it?” Rae asked trying to get details.
“No, silly, not yet.” Kat smiled, giggling.
“I knew Howie had the hots for you, but I didn’t even guess you liked him….” Rae said. They had just found a dress Kat loved. It was a simple black dress. It was short, with an empire waist. She had found it in downtown San Francisco and had decided she’d buy it on the spot.
“I have a tendency to hide my feelings well.” Kat smiled.
“Well, I’m glad you guys are getting together. ……Now we’re both going to have Backstreet boyfriends.” Rae laughed. Kat laughed too. She had thought and dreamt about it for a long time and it was actually happening. They pulled up to their hotel and they got out of the cab.
“Well, it’s 5, and you should start getting ready.” Rae said.
“Well, I dunno, I’m so nervous!!!” Kat exclaimed.
“Take a hot bath, it’ll calm you…ok?” Rae suggested. “And have fun, ok? I’ll want the news tomorrow.”
Kat went up to her room. She took a bath like Rae suggested and it did help calm her. She put on her makeup and got dressed.
Howie came to get her at 7 on the dot. She opened the door to find Howie looking better then usual. He had a black jacket with a tight white shirt underneath. He paired that with a pair of fitted black pants.
“You look amazing Kat” Howie said hugging her. He walked into her room.
“You look great too.” Kat said looking him up and down. She couldn’t understand why it had taken her this long to realize she loved him, especially with all of Howie’s temptations. She could see that his body was looking amazing as always even though he was wearing the jacket.
“I think I know what it feels like to be undressed by someone’s eyes.” Howie laughed a little running his hand through his hair. Kat blushed a little and laughed nervously.
“I wasn’t looking that hard” Kat said. “You just look unbelievable.”
“Thank you. I’m dressed to impress…” Howie laughed.
“You look amazing too. Are you ready to go?” Kat shook her head slowly. Howie started walking towards the door, turned around and noticed Kat just standing there looking down.
“What’s wrong” Howie asked.
“I’m really really nervous.” Kat sighed “We’ve been friends for a long time and I’ve liked you for awhile and now it’s reality.”
“Sweetie, don’t worry.” Howie came over to her and touched her arm. “I’m nervous too. I’ve loved since the day I saw you in CUBE. I’d much rather have the reality of us being together.” Kat tried to smile.
“I’m nervous too.” Howie smiled at her. “But we’re here to help each other. Everything is going to go slowly, ok?" Kat smiled still not so sure.
“Let’s go.” Howie said softly. He reached down and took her hand in his. He laced her fingers through his and smiled. She found it strange that his hand gave her goosebumps, where as their touching had never caused that before. Everytime they touched now, Kat felt bolts of electricity run through her body.
They left the hotel, going out the back way to avoid the fans. Howie had a bodyguard drive them and they went to a very fancy restaurant.
“Isn’t this place really exclusive?” Kat whispered as they were seated right away. “How’d we get a seat in such short notice?”
“Well, being a Backstreet Boy has got its perks.” Howie whispered back, smiling and winking at her.
“You’re so full of yourself.” Kat teased. They sat at a little table in the back. There were movie stars at almost all of the tables.
“Well, Kat, you’re going to be a movie star too when your movie comes out.” Howie reached over the table and grabbed her hand.
“Whatever. That won’t happen. It’s a small movie, nothing big.”
“You need to believe in yourself more.”
They talked for a long time about the tour, the music business and everything in general. They left the restaurant after a long dinner.
“Where should we go next?” Howie asked as they stepped outside.
“Um, we could go dancing?” Kat thinking about other places she’d like to go.
“Nah…I have an idea though.” Howie smiled. They got into the car and Howie whispered something into the drivers ear. The driver agreed and started driving.
“Isn’t the hotel the other way?” Kat asked realizing she had no clue where they were going.
“Maybe..” Howie said slyly. Soon they drove up to a beach.
“Let’s go for a walk on the beach.” Howie suggested. They got out of the car and the car drove off.
“How are we going to get back?” Kat asked as the car drove away.
“We’ll walk.” Howie grabbed her hand and they went down the beach. They walked for a long time looking at the moon. Kat shivered slightly from the breeze.
“Are you cold?” Howie inquired looking at her.
“ A little.” Kat remarked.
“Here, you can have my jacket.” Howie said starting to take off his jacket.
“No. Then you’ll be cold!” Kat said pushing his jacket back up his arms.
“Ok” Howie said. He grabbed he and pulled her into his arms. He hugged her tightly.
“Is that better?”
“Yes” Kat smiled. It was definitely getting warmer. They kissed softly, little soft kisses. Soon they became more deep lingering kisses.
“Are you warmer now?” Howie asked smiling.
“Definitely, much warmer.” Kat smiled.
“Your eyes look so green today.” Howie said. He reached up and stroked her cheek. “I’ve never seen them this green before.”
“They get really green when I’m happy.” Kat said. It was true though, whenever she was happy her eyes looked greener.
“They’re really pretty like that.”
“You should keep me happy then”
“Well, what makes you happy.”
“Well, hugs make me happy. Smiles make me happy. You being here loving me makes me happy. But this makes me happiest.” Kat kissed him fiercely.
“That’s why I like you. You always amaze me.” Howie remarked.
“How did I amaze you?” Kat questioned.
“Well, if I’d known you liked kissing so much, I would have tried it sooner.”
“I wish you had…..you have such kissable lips.” She ran her finger over his bottom lip gently. He kissed her finger softly.
“Shouldn’t we be heading back?” Kat asked. They were going to Sacramento the next day.
“Yeah, we should I guess. Let’s start back.” They went back to the hotel and luckily there were only two fans still in the lobby. Howie gave them both autographs. They went upstairs and Howie kissed her goodnight. Kat shut the door when he left. ‘What’s going on.” Kat thought. She was overwhelmingly happy, but something in her head told her another story. She’d be leaving in 3 days, and Howie would still be on tour for 3 more months. Things were changing. She figured she’d be left with a broken heart.

“All I know is its about freaking time.” Kat heard someone say. She was on the tour bus, asleep next to Howie.
“Shutup Nick, she’s sleeping.” She felt someone touch her hair and she smiled. “Now you’ve woken her up with your fat mouth. Good job.” She shifted slightly. She opened her eyes a little. Howie had his arm around her and was looking at her. Aj and Nick were standing in the aisle looking at them.
“Good morning.” AJ smiled at her.
“Morning………..” Kat said sleepily. “I don’t remember getting on the bus….”
“You were half asleep. You’ve been asleep for like 3 hours.” Nick smirked. “Late night?” He asked. AJ stifled a laugh.
“Shut up you assholes. Go away” Howie shoved AJ and then Nick. They went to the back laughing together.
“I’m sorry about them baby.” Howie smiled.
“It’s ok. I know how immature they are.” Kat smiled. She was kind of happy she had fallen asleep. She had stayed up writing last night and was really tired.
“Did you sleep ok?”
“Yes, I did……I must look horrible!” Kat mumbled. She definitely didn’t remember brushing her hair.
“No you look gorgeous” Howie leaned over and kissed her cheek.
“You don’t need to lie……Where’s Rae?”
“Up front I think. She was mad I stole you and brought you back here with me.”
“You stole me?”
“Yah, I told you to come sit here so I could have my way with you.” He kissed her.
“Well, I’m going to go talk to Rae, ok?” He gave her puppy dog eyes and pouted.
“I’ll be back” She hit his arm softly. He faked hurt but let her ass. She found Rae sitting with AJ at the front of the bus.
“You woke up” Rae smiled. She looked at AJ sternly.
“Leave” He got up and went to the back obediently.
“So, how’d it go last night?”
:Oh, God, it was perfect Rae. We walked on the beach. He is so damn hot.” Kat replied dreamily.
“I’m telling you, I had to sit through that goofy smile yesterday, and I’m guessing I’ll have to do it again.” Rae smiled.
“It’s so weird. It’s like a big book. I wish I knew the ending.”

“Dude, don’t be such an immature jerk” Kevin threw a pillow at Nick.
“You know you want to know about D’s late night adventures as much as well all want to.” Nick scoffed.
“I know I’m interested.” AJ said smiling.
“Nada happened, ok? Now, go away.” Howie groaned. ‘When did they get so nosy?” he wondered. Anyway, it was different with Kat. Nick and Brian returned to a video game and Kevin returned to his reading. AJ came and sat in the seat Kat had vacated.
“So, you haven’t charmed her out of her pants yet D?” AJ asked smiling.
“No, dude. You cant go that way with Kat” Howie sighed. He knew AJ wouldn’t leave him alone until he got something.
“When do you think you’ll put the moves on her?”
“I don't know. Tomorrow is her birthday. I figure I could make it really special.” Howie laughed. AJ always coaxed his dirty side out.
“Word!” AJ laughed. “Tomorrow is her birthday for real?”
“Yep, 19”
“Why hasn’t she told us?”
“I guess she didn’t want to think about it”
“Are we going to do something?”
“Yah, we’ll talk about it later,”
“Cool”
Rae and Kat spent the rest of the day doing their girl thing while the guys did publicity as usual. When they went to the concert, they watched from backstage. After the concert, all the guys went out clubbing except for Howie and Kat who went to he hotel and watched movies. They actually spent more time making-out like high schoolers then watching the movie. They were still making out on the bed when there was a knock at the door.
“They’ll go away,” Howie said not attempting to get up. The knocking continued.
“Damn” he cursed under his breath. He got up slowly and Kat sat up attempting to straighten herself.
“Hey D” Brian said cheerily as Howie opened the door.
“What’s up?”
“Nothing much.” Howie replied.
“I just wanted to know if you wanted to play b-ball with us..” Brian said looking into the room. He then saw Kat watching TV on the bed.
“I don’t think so, thanks anyway.” Howie said. Brian gave Howie a really weird look.
“Ok……” e said, looking at Howie, then Kat, then Howie again strangely. Howie closed the door and came and sat by Kat.
“What was he looking at so strangely?” Howie wondered out loud.
“Well, um, it could be that your neck is all red.” Kat muttered looking around sheepishly.
“What?” Howie asked. His hands went up to his neck and he got up to look in the mirror. His neck was red and it looked like the start of a hickey.
“Omigod, you gave me a hickey.” Howie said stunned.
“Um, sorry………” Kat said softly. She couldn’t help but start to laugh.
“I’m going to get made fun of ” Howie said staring at Kat. “The guys will kill me” Kat stood up and examined his neck. She kissed his neck softly.
“There’s been enough of that Miss.” He started tickling her.
“Quit!” Kat exclaimed. He enveopled in her a big hug.
“I should go…” Kat said not letting go of him.
“Ok…” Howie sighed. “I dunno what I’m going to tell the guys.”
“Well, tell them it’s a rash.”
“Yah, that’ll work.”
“So, you’re basically saying you don’t like your hickey?” Kat asked demurely.
“Well, I haven’t had once since high school. The guys are going to get on my case. But I did like how I got it.” He put his arms around her waist. He kissed her roughly.
“Speaking of high school. I feel like I’m in high school. I feel like we got caught making out. And now I’m going to get punished or something.”
“I dunno..” Howie joked smiling.
“I should go anyway….. We don’t need anymore incriminating marks on our bodies.”
“And if you stayed, there’d be more marks?”
“Maybe.” Kat teased.
“I think there would be.”
“Don’t be so sure of yourself.” Howie pouted at her.
“You know you’re irresistible…” Kat said kissing him softly.
“I should go, ok?” Howie agreed and Kat left.
